Evening Folks,
I’ve got a variation for a .45-70 and have wanted a lever gun for a while. Does anyone have anything for sale or have any recommendations on what is good or bad as there isn’t much info on the internet.
Cheers, Oscar

Have you shot a 45-70? Are you okay with recoil?

If yes and yes then crack on, if not, maybe try one first. Unless you’re shooting soft gallery loads it’s a bit of thumper. If you are just shooting gallery loads then you may as well get a .44, brass is cheaper and easier to come by and you burn less powder.

Realistically with 45-70 you are likely to be looking at a marlin. Various models to choose from and a choice of a marlin made older gun, a Remington made gun or a ruger made gun. The Remington made guns are less desirable, JM stamped marlin made are most desirable. The Remingtons just aren’t as nice, fit and finish is not as good as the other 2, accuracy came be hit or miss. That said, I have a remlin and I like it!

Really to answer your question we need to know;
Intended use
Budget
Preference for new/secondhand
Whether you wish to fit a moderator or brake

Oh I wish I had a money tree so I could buy this!

Yes I’m all good with recoil. Will be using it for very dense woodland deer mostly and a bit of range work.

Unfussed about new or second hand, but would like to fit a moderator.

Budget is no more than £2k all in, including mod and probably a red dot/low power scope

Cheers

Prefect for the job then.

For that budget get a new Ruger Marlin. Will come threaded, they are nicely put together and accurate. Should be able to get the rifle and mod for the game 2k so just the scope to add.
