Loose barrel

I’ve witnessed it happen on a 6mm PPC benchrest rifle where the owner had switched barrels & either forgotten to apply the final torque or hadn’t applied enough.

Barrels on Mauser actions are typically installed with much greater torque than BR barrels - gunsmiths are far more likely to complain at the difficulty of removing rather than them being too loose. For one to ‘undo’ in use is bizarre & you’d have to imagine it wasn’t properly installed rather than had come loose (through vibration etc).
I remember when Swedish Mausers were popular as a base for custom conversions.
The barrels are screwed on so hard that the easiest way to remove one was to cut a relieving slot with a parting tool between the barrel and action (only removing metal from the barrel).
I made a custom stock for a bloke for his 6mm Rem Mag.
I was offering the action and barrel up during inletting when I realised that the bloke who put the new barrel on hadn't tightened it.
It does happen.

Had a Horton sp in 44 sp 629.1 3" it used to love snapping the roll pin and undoing the barrel.
But the fireball at night was a site to see in slow mo.
