Magne-Tech QD RTZ mounts & Hikmicro Alpex Pro A50P/PL scopes

A quick thread for anyone considering marrying these two excellent pieces of kit, then please don’t without reading further!

I purchased both a couple of weeks ago only to find there is insufficient clearance between the underside of the Alpex Pro’s central battery compartment and the top of the detachable mount. I still opted to keep the mount as it suits my needs but will have to do some fettling to create the required clearance no doubt voiding its warranty.

Magna-tech are aware of this limitation and have put through a design change to ‘Rev J’ and hope to have it in production soon.

No idea how to post a photo of the problem on this forum but the diameter of the underside of the battery housing on Alpex Pro is 35mm and there isn’t enough length of flat on the Magne-Tech to accommodate that. I probably should have bought the 4K instead :)

My issue with them was that the distance between picatinny attachments for the base would obstruct the ejection port on my S20 so I had to fit a second rail to the S20’s stub rail adding yet more weight.

Well, I must be nuts because I couldn’t see that option yesterday. Here’s a picture with ring set screws finger tight. I had seen the reviews of the mount but they were all from before the Alpex Pro was launched. It’s been a surprise as my main worry wasn’t fit but the effect the rare earth magnets may have had on the scopes electronics/gyroscope/compass etc.

Any UK distribution yet that you know of @wytonpjs ? The debacle I had with Fed-Ex over the importation of a scope mount recently and its impact upon my blood pressure has slowed down my appetitive for importing stuff....seems a good system.

Sadly, not that I'm aware of 😞

I've placed 2 orders now direct with Magne Tech and both have arrived in days, shipping via DHL. Yes, I have got stung the import charges (do factor this into your thinking) but their process was fast and the items delivered next day after the fee was paid online. The last order made on 19 Feb was delivered on the 23rd - not bad coming all the way from Utah at that included a weekend! In use, they are great, just don't get any bits of pink between the 2 parts otherwise you will know about it!

I do have an "odd" thought wondering whether the strong magnetic fields could affect digital scopes in some way but having tried both a full-fat Alpex and now a Pard, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Optics Warehouse is where I got mine from. They do 25mm or 30mm sets and you can buy top and bottom parts separately (when thy are back in stock).

Interesting, when you say full fat Alpex do you mean the 4K or the Pro. Reason for asking is that I believe that unlike the 4K the Pro’s ballistics calculator has a compass that kicks in when you input wind direction and speed to give you the correct hold.

Old Alpex 4k LRF A50EL - could be a problem with the Pro :-|

Thanks for posting that :thumb:

I think the ad is a little bit misleading in stating "30-38.5mm" as the advertised ones are the 30mm rings but they are 38.5mm high, not that they accept scopes between 30 and 38.5mm diameter :doh:The box puts it a little better.

However, that's a good price as mine 30's were £263 plus £37 shipping plus import tax!

I now have 2 bases, 2 x 30 rings sets and a 34mm set, and a 2 magnet picatinny rail set onto which a Red Dot sight is mounted - the 2 magnet adapters fit the 3 magnet bases.

Just an alternative option to consider - Tier 1 QD Monomounts. They do a medium and high mount so lots of options for a variety of scopes and UK made.

No connection with me...just have 4 of the monomounts and find them spot on (2 are QD and 2 are standard)

I did consider the QD Monomount but was impressed by the Magne-Tech’s guaranteed 1/4 MOA RTZ, the speed and simplicity at which scopes can be changed and the split mount system so I could change multiple scopes on a single rifle…. Or multiple rifles for a single scope. Oh and the price of course, it was a lot less than the Monomount especially when considering you only need buy the top or bottom half at 1/2 the price for multiple rifle scope combinations.
