Maize silage in full swing

Earliest start to maize silage season ever. Several of my perms have been harvesting all this week. At this rate they will finish before month end. Effectively 4/6 weeks early. Normally end of September start / early October.
Some is coming in v well 54% dry matter. Cobs OK. Later planted crops might not fare so well.
Opens up a lot of ground for me and appears lots of munties seen when couple of blocks cut.

Question, is cut maize (corn) silage a dinner bell for your geese and pigeons?

Here, we have some of our best shoots a few days after silage harvest.

In a word no.Its cut green so the kernels are still soft so no spillage. Crows will hit the stubble if any whole plants are on the ground they peck out the the cobs.
The only time I have seen masses of pigeon on maize stubble was when it was combined and they went silly on the spent kernels.
As for geese I haven't seen any at all this year.

I have drilled many an acre of maize conventional and under plastic with a Samco drill but never heard of chopping it in August before now . 😀👍🏻

Same here! Maize silage will be on its way shortly, the only advantage as against "normal" years is that the roads won't be covered in mud and the fields churned up to nothing!

I'll be glad when the maize is all done. The fallow will reappear then. At the moment they're just living in the maize fields where you can't see them or get at them.
