bought some new 223 redding dies a couple of weeks ago, cleaned all packing grease off, been ok up till today, iv only since i got these dies been bumping the shoulder, on the down stroke these dies were a bit tougher than my Lee dies, but the up stroke was a fair bit more, but today i re sized 50 twice fired ADI brass and some came out with all sorts of marks/rings on them, im aware of case separation although not had any myself as yet, but out of the 50 i did 15 have rings on them, some where id expect separation and some where i wouldnt so much, some have 3 rings on, any one had this before, or know whats going on, iv been advised to re clean the dies by my SD WhatsApp guru :D

thanks,

You say that are bumping the shoulders back. I presume you are using a F/L die for that. If so, have you lubed your cases?

I assume factory ammo or other reloads are OK, in that case is unlikely to be the rifle.

Perhaps some one with a 223 can resize a couple of your once fired in their dies, that should confirm we're the issue is?

Looks like the case on the right has a separation about to occur in the section closest to the case neck. The other marks look like lube rings as if the lever stroke was interupted.

There are some interesting marks on the side wall, is that just a dark mark or a pin hole?
Also, the neck seems to have some odd marks and looks a little bent? Might just be the close up and lense distortion, but I would check that out.

well spotted, i have a good magnifying glass with a light so will check them all out properly tomorrow, i cleaned my die and put a few sako's through and they were fine, i can only think my lube pad was not properly lubed, im always mindful not to over lube, might go back to the imperial lube, pads just quicker, 👍

What lube are you using?

Cases shouldn't be difficult to full length size with a decent lube, even the home made stuff should give a smooth sizing operation..

been using a RSBC lube pad, and some times use imperial, plus the imperial neck lube, black powder type, never really done it before, so not sure why its started yesterday on my ADI brass, i re sized 120 Norma cases last week with no bother.

Are you using graphite dry lube plus wet lube?

not as bad as it looks, gave it a quick go over with a bit of wire wool, not a pin hole, and the neck was ok, a lot of the marks seemed to come off with the wire wool, still a few suspect tines though, iv bunged them all in the tumbler for 24 hours, see what that brings 👍

Why for 24 hours!

Are you using wet lube and dry lube?

I would suggest cleaning the inside of your die and sticking with imperial sizing wax…..
