I think there has been a lot of slagging mintman off and I cant be arsed to read through all of the posts in depth. I would say that he is right in saying that practice is good, we should all try to kill humanely no matter what species we are shooting at. We all have to live with the consequences of the shots we take. The full story of any shot made can not be understood by seeing photos or indeed a carcass so hence it is difficult to judge others when you have not witnessed the full course of events, so the best judge is the person who took the shot. The only sure way of never to wound or poorly placing a shot is not to shoot. Practice not only improves our shooting skills but it also illustrates our limits.
Your welcome to come and stalk deer in open fields with no hedges and see how far you can stalk them ,, some times a well placed long shot is whats needed, but if you cant make the shot dont take it.... shoot to your abilities its a simple as that.
I do stalk deer on open ground with little cover pretty often however I do my best to get as close as is possible, and trust me i know my limitations for shooting and don't shoot outside of them, I think the op has seen some exit wounds on some animals a bit far back and come to the wrong conclusion that they were gut shot however that's not always the case
this is in private as i dont do hair pulling so tween you and me,do you know the gatehse colour and the one in poole, never served with either myself but did you?Read and undertand the post then slag me off.
