Medal Munjac?

I’ve never bothered with medal heads before, but recently shot this Big bodied old boy.

I can get my clenched fist through his antlers above his skull easily (I have size 10/11 hands)

He’s currently in the freezer, so I presume I have to defrost and boil off before measuring to count?

Anyway here he is:

That’ll make a medal.

Technically they can be measured without cleaning but I think you’d struggle to find a CIC measurer who’d be happy to take a head in the flesh 🤣 Besides, when you get the medal & cert you’ll want to mount it anyway.

No it can’t! All trophies have to be cleaned and allowed to dry for 30 days from the date of cleaning before they can be evaluated by the CIC

Thank you all, this is all new to me. A quick search on here produced some older posts that explain how to measure it etc.

I stand corrected - could have sworn I was told Muntjac could be done in the skin because there’s no weighing involved.
My understanding is the same as yours. There isn't any weight involved so I'm sure it can be ‘scored’ and you’ll know if it’s a medal or not. The wait time must just be a technicality.

I’ve printed off a scoring sheet from an old post on here. I’m minded to give him a novice measure whilst still frozen. If he’s looking good which I suspect he will, he’ll have to be cleaned up before (probable) posting.

You could get it measured at the Stalking Show, if you're going.

Give it a little measure yourself then see who is local to you.

There have been some crackers this year.

Key Features For Measuring Antlers

  • To achieve bronze medal status, Muntjac trophies will require a main beam length of at least 10.5 cm, inside span of 11 cm, and brow tines of 1.5 cm.
  • Muntjac deer antlers must have a dry out period (after preparation) of at least 30 days before evaluation.
