Merkel K1

Handled a used Merkel K1 in the shop today . Gun felt very nice in the hands only downfall it was a 300 Win Mag in an extremely light rifle . Which is good because if it had been a 6.5x57R I’d most likely have written the check . I’ve been intrested in a Blaser K95 in 6.5x57R or 6.5x65R RWS for awhile , but this little rifle opened my eyes to the Merkel offering !

I used a K95 in 300 Win Mag to shoot a chamois. It was lightweight but with a decent length barrel. To be honest the recoil was a non event. Partly it was due to shooting a lightweight bullet very fast. Partly due the excitement of shooting a chamois.

Not sure I would want to shoot lots of cartridges through it. But once zeroed they are the sorts of rifles that you carry a lot and shoot little. Break it down into your pack. Hike up into the mountains fir a few days and fire one round at an Elk, Deer, sheep etc.
