Midge Jacket

Bit of advice needed lads.

Whats the best midge jacket out there, the head net I have now is useless for glassing or stalking. Need something to see through if the little buggers are out in force.

Cheers

I've bought a few from Moray outfitting on here and can't fault them, good price and quality.
I wear them quite a lot and have 1 stored in my shed, vans etc so never too far away from 1.

I don't mind them for stalking glassing, if I was being really critical I was wearing them to do some building work recently and sometimes in the late evening it was a wee bit harder to see ur building line, but it was getting on at night and there was a swarm of the little buggers outside the net. U couldn't have worked otherwise.

I usually wear a wide brimmed hat below and u can almost forget ur wearing it sometimes as it keeps it off ur face

We like Beatons. I'm also testing the Swedteam Jacket and like it a lot - just shame they insist on selling it as a set - Jacket and Trousers which pumps up the price.

For absolute clarity you also have Midge Amour - developed by a client, its a head mesh combined with glasses.

Cheers lads

That's narrowed it down. Almost bought another version in Lairg when I was up but the jacket was costing around 90 quid so gave it a miss as vision through it wasn't that good.

Do you have a preference of the 2 jackets? Price isn't an issue but clarity is. I know it's never going to be perfect but for me the clearer the better.

Bryan,

I used to use one of the Beaton midge jackets, as to the vision as I can't remember any major difficulties then I assume it was OK :thumb:.

I also bought from Andy at Moray Outfitters. I have had them (i bought a couple) 3 years i think and am surprised they have not ripped, they are way tougher than they look. Vision through the net is actually fine. There is a slight reduction, but not enough to make me take it off during a west coast midge attack, even for a shot.
Nothing is as good as nothing when it comes to visibility and nets, but when necessary i would have no problem in recommending the ones Moray outfitters sell.
