Very often nowadays it is standard practice to seal threads with a compound. Foe all sorts of reasons.
Gas and liquid proof, electro isolation and vibration.
Plumbers tape is more favourable over a setting compound to ease removal.
100% agree though, something is a miss, maybe not alignment but certainly thread percentage.
A recut would be the answer and certainly the only option for a more intense round. It's only a 22 though
