Were they the little arms that swung out on the pillar between the driver and rear passenger doors? Also had a tendency to stick out methinks.

Yes that’s right that’s what they were. They did used to stick, mine did on the drivers side, so I just used to wack the pillar by the door with my elbow and most times it would pop out. Mine also had a starting handle, very useful for starting if the battery was low on juice.
Also bought a complete exhaust for it, cost me £3 and it came all as one long piece from the exhaust manifold to tail pipe, I had to jack up the body too give enough room to feed it through.
Great days indeed, cars nowadays have become virtually throw away consumables.
