Motorcycle

So…. Pardon my ignorance… As I read the firearms act I am legally allowed to carry a fire arm in a slip on my back on a motorcycle. Are there any FEO’s or law-men on here that can confirm this please
Many thanks

Chap at my club often does it when going to Bisley.
However, I wouldn’t like to come off with a rifle on my back - cue a selection of broken ribs / vertebrae!

Many many years ago I bought a shotgun from a dealers ( Entwistles) of Preston. Took the bus back to Chorley and went onto Victory Park to watch the Magpies, with the gun in a slip. No crowd problems that day.👍

As were my suspicions regarding “crowd control”🤣🤣🤣

Many thanks all for your input! One CAN’T be careful ENOUGH when it comes to fire arms in my opinion! As ALWAYS this site is a very good platform for advice many thanks.

Yup
You can carry it on a bicycle or a pogo stick if you like . Your only breaking the law if the motorcycle is nicked.
so, how are you committing an offence if its nicked? its on your back and can walk along with it anyway, if on motorcycle, a long as you have taken reasonable precautions.... I always used to travel by motorcycle.... forgot I had a shotgun with me one time and popped into post office complete with open face helmet on..... post mistress did request I didn't bring the gun in next time... joy of being a local village post office.

Yes you can carry/posses in a public place whilst in a slip and you have a good reason for having it.

Some would say I'm being pedantic here but there is no need (in law) for a rifle or shotgun to be kept in a slip whilst in a public place. You just need "lawful authority or reasonable excuse" to be in possession, which as a certificate holder you have. Note that your conditions say you can only have the firearm with you for purposes connected with its use, sale, transfer, repair, etc. (can't remember the exact wording off the top of my head) so to have it with you NOT for one of those purposes is not lawful. I.e you can't just wander about with your rifle, but you can walk to the range, or your "permission" or to the gunsmith.

I'm not saying it's wise to carry an uncovered gun around the high street, but neither is it illegal to carry one down the lane between two farms, or from your vehicle to a field gate, etc.

They make excellent - lockable - quad bike rifle scabbards made from thick high impact polymer that can also be fitted to bikes. Stops your gun spewing out into traffic if you come off, and allows you the possibility to nip into a shop for 30 seconds to grab a can of coke on your way home. They’re about £100 IIRC

I wouldn't mind one of these Harley Davidsons

IIRC those are one of the only consumer bikes to run on diesel. They’re based off the bikes made for the USMC. Only about 60mph top speed but they get about 1000miles per tank
