MTC Scopes

Can anyone offer any reviews or advice on MTC Scopes? I’m looking at the 3-18x50 Tactical but wondering what others opinions are?

I’m looking to spend about £300 on a scope and mounts to use woodland stalking and some fixing out to 200m.

Some people say they are crap, without really saying why. I like them. Good value. I use Mamba Lite on air rifles (pcp and spiringers), rimmys and 243. Viper on 223 and 308. I can see bullet holes in target at 200yds. White part only, cant see them in black. So far not lost zero on any of them.
They are good for IR night vision, apparently the lens coatings on some of the better scopes is so good it absorbs too much IR.
I don't worry to much if they make contact with the high seat when you are pulling the rifle up on the end of a rope.

I use the Viper 6-24x56, for the money they are good scopes. Well built, hold zero. Mine hasn’t moved at all in the time I’ve had it. They work really well with the likes of Pard 007 add ons

It is a cheap scope for a reason, and if that is what you want then fine. Yes it will hold zero, but you might be better with a higher quality secondhand scope if low light transmission is important and of course you will lose the light quicker in a woods than you will out in a field.
it is horses for courses.

The optics are good for the money! Yes the German glass is better but you get what you pay for and the Mtc support is great if you ever have any problems! 👌👌

I use them on all my "after dark" rifles with NV add on's (for which they are great) but wouldn't choose one for a rifle I was using exclusively for deer control. If your foxing is with a lamp rather than NV you will see more benefit from a quality 8x56 or up you budget a bit for a duralyt or similar

I bought a new Viper Tactical to use with a Ward 800 NV. Zeroed it on a remmy 700 .204 but when I fitted the Ward the POI shift was a couple of feet. After a lot of re-zeroing attempts and re-fitting the Ward I found that the eye bell was loose. When you looked through the scope and waggled the eye bell the cross moved all over the place. This was from new out of the box. Returned it to the shop and got a refund and bought a sightron.

I've owned both the Viper and Mamba lite versions over the years, never really had a problem with them but sometimes suffered a 'milky' image when using at high mag. You get what you pay for when it comes to scopes and if it's only to be used for woodland stalking I would but a Schmidt and Bender 8x56, plenty for sale around the £300 mark second hand.

Look round for a used 6x42, 8x56, 7x50 from Europe. Out to 200 yards it’s all you need. All of them will be minute of fox. I’ve got Swarovski variables on my Deer rifles. Shot a few deer & foxes with them. Most of the time set at 8x or less.

As blitz king said I’d opt for a S&B 8x56 second hand, can’t go wrong with that for woodland stalking IMO. Having said that both of my airguns -standard and FAC have MTC vipers which are adequate scopes. Have no experience with them on centre fire rifles though. I to have had the ‘milky image’at high mag also.

Agree with the above comments on a milky image. I had a mamba on my 223 a few years ago. Thought it was pretty pump at low light and on higher mag. Also had issues with shine back off the lamp. Only scope I've ever had this problem with. A used S&B 8x56 or Meopta 7x50 would be far better for the distances you mention

Mates in syndicate with high mag scopes tend to set them around 8x or so and leave them. I have a S+B 8x56 and shoot Roe out to 200 yds with it but main advantage in a woodland type setting is low light performance so would recommend similar.

I had a MTC Genesis 5-20x50 years ago, great scope for the money, they come for under £300, or a much better option is a Lightstream, there's one for sale on here and it'll be a far better scope .

MTC are generally ok for the price. They are popular with airgunners and work well with these , I have had several on airguns and .22s.
Dont put them next to best Jap or euro glass but for what they were marketed for they are fine.
For woodland stalking as previously indicated go fixed euro or better Jap.
