Muntjac cull project - Suffolk & Essex

I was just sent this by a friend and thought it would be of interest to SD members, especially if local success led to similar initiatives elsewhere.
"The Country Food Trust is planning to run a project to reduce the impact of Muntjac and Chinese Water Deer around certain areas of Suffolk, the Essex Coast and Heaths as well as the Dedham Vale National Landscape. There will be funding available for estates and deer managers for every carcass paid directly to them, the venison will then be supplied via the Country Food Trust to national food banks"

This seems like a good way forward if it can be managed properly. Any scheme that gets more venison eaten is good news

Posted this last week - similar scheme for the North Downs :thumb:

Just an update on the thread. The CFT initiative for Muntjac and Chinese Water deer is currently going ahead with the target of 3000 munty and CWD for Suffolk by the end of February.

They are paying £20 per carcass - providing it has been hygienically gralloched and handled. It is a great initiative and the sort of thing most stalkers have been crying out for. If the target is achieved, there is a good chance that it will be repeated next season too.
