Munty enticement

Around where I live we have a healthy population of roe, but no muntjac.

I've a young deciduous plantation that is absolutely inundated with bracken, so visibility of roe is difficult enough.

One evening this week I am certain I saw a muntjac (in the thermal spotter) in said plantation, crossing a ride. Before I got the binos up it was gone.

What might entice the muntjac out to get a better look? To ID, not to bait and shoot.

Also, could this be a stray Munty? Or should I expect a population to start building.

If they are there you will hear them bark if they wind you

look for the slots, tiny compared to roe, they also seem to like the same place to cross the rides

Put a pheasant feeder full of wheat out... that usually does the trick.

Trail cams would do the trick.

A bark followed by the tail going upright as they **** off. Then when the bracken falls you’re good the go. Cutting deer lawns helps too

i dont think ive ever heard a munty bark when it bumped, and ive bumped more than i should have!

Roe Blatter can get 'em curious and nosey on occasion. The ones around here are pretty vocal and will bark when bumped/wind you...

They are there, just not when you are! 2 hrs morning and 2hrs evening leaves 20hrs
It is their timing, I saw 3 the other night out foxing around 10pm
Walk your route the other way and have a look on the ground, if it is woodland then the wet bits on rides.
Once you sort the timing you will get one.

Ah ok I’ve a big estate for stalking not far from york really and no munty on at present just lots of roe but they’re not far away …..

Go for a look at night with the thermal, you’ll see the little sods if they are there.
