My second go at auction rifles.

Had an extended road trip starting Monday morning 04:45, Fueled up at 05:00 & launched for Reloading solutions at Kidlington (These people are so accommodating,as I arrived early), Aftab completed transactions in double quick time & I re launched to Holt's over on the Sandringham estate, collected said auction unknown Sako Vixen in .222 Remington, landed back home in North Wales 18:45, The rifle has obvious signs of its age,& its serial number puts it around 1976 ish, bore is fairly bright and has been left on 24 hour soak, an inky mess was flushed out of the bolt with a high power brake cleaner.
Will try some factory 50 grain through when I get it set up.:-|
 
Nice road trip. You should have taken advantage and gone out for a muntjac whilst down in deepest Norfolk.

A good road trip. I once did one from Edinburgh down to Holts to pick up my Hambrusch built combination gun.

We spent the night at the local Rose and Crown, picked it up from Holts, drove to Suffolk for a farming friends 40th Birthday. He had a box of 16 bore cartridges so we went and dealt with a good number of squirrels. Then to London for a couple of work meetings, that of course included a trip to J Roberts & Sons to pick up two boxes of 7x65r rifle ammo.

Then back up North.

If it is a 'real' L461 (not A1), then it has an adjustable firing pin.

It is very important that you check the firing pin protrusion before shooting it, as many have lost their retaining screw over the years and thus have excess protrusion from the firing pin hole which could pierce primers.

 
A small portion of puzzlement, barrel has been shortened around an inch as there is present a small screw point at muzzle end, (along with an apparent "recrown" done with a stone axe), puzzlement being this rifle should not have sported iron sights?.
Also looks to have worn some sort of mod at one time.
Later type bolt shroud (none adjust firing pin, BUT the legend "L461" and "Vixen" impressed to barrel.
No mention underside of "Bofors". Trigger group stamped "Finland".

What on earth’s been done to the top of the action? Looks like the ejection port has been extended forwards, cutting into the rail above it.
 
The stock has had its Nitromors bath, & is now in its first coat of stock oil. (A good scrub with a brass bristle shoe brush cleaned out the chequering nicely)
