Do they still make the Napier Apex Auto Lift? A1 Decoys, Bushwear and the Napier website all have it out of stock?

Looking for a site where it's still in stock! Let me know if you know of anywhere

If it helps 2x2 with a 2 galvanised chain plate staples (u shape welded to a plate, £3 from tool station) fixed at one end (one for the boot catch one for the hoist) and then a slot cut in the middle to locate on the other end of the boot catch, works fine. Each end cut at an angle of course

I had that idea too. Wood in compression can take a lot of load.
I expect I stole the idea from someone on here could have been you!. Anyway works fine with a big fallow buck.

Wasn’t keen to pay for all the other stuff that comes with what is essentially an extendable metal pole, as I have it all. Pleased with it, bespoke for the car 😆

Can I ask where you got what looks like a locking pulley for the top?
I have one but don't know where I got it and all the ones I find online are super cheap 10kg rating or climbing 10kN rating. And I just want something simple in the middle
Sure it’s made by hme and various places incl bushwear

Ah the whole kit including gambrel storage bag etc. I've seen that
Was looking for just a pulley
But the whole kit is about as cheap as I could put the pulley & locking pulley and rope together so i may as well get that

Have you used one before? I'd honestly save your pennies. I had one years ago and sold it as it was flawed. I don't see any need for smaller deer (roe = 2x S hooks and a branch for me) and they just aren't up to bigger deer. They may have improved the design but it doesn't look like it. 2 main issues:
1. Unless the pull is perfectly straight then the ratchet jumps - and straight lifts aren't always possible with big deer on uneven ground and random shaped trees etc.
2. Once you do get your deer hoisted and gralloched you then have no way of gradually lowing the thing. You flick the ratchet and gravity takes over - it's neither safe nor hygienic (as it's hard to control where the nicely gralloched deer lands)
3. Oh and I just thought of a 3rd - the ratchet handle is too short to get much leverage so it's not easy to hoist anything of size.

My cheap timber version works great for me with a proper block and tackle (and at an almost free price) - tbh doesn’t need to lock as you can tie it off on the tow bar. With a ratchet strap - that’s a bit random didn’t realise that’s what they sell them with.
