To get back to Frenchieboys OP, Its a brave person who recons they will never be done for speeding because a moments inattention and it can happen to anyone is all it takes. For anyone that thinks speed is not an issue of safety, look at it like this, it takes the average motorist .7 (point 7) of a second to recognise a hazard and hit the brake peddle, thats not to stop, but to start braking, at 30 mph in that .7 of second you travel about 40 feet two car lengths and a bit, at 40 its 50 feet and at 70 its 100 feet just in reaction time. That's all assuming you were not changing a CD or looking in the mirror. With speed the stopping distance of course depends on a huge variety of factors, brake pad and disc condition, vehicle weight, tyre wear, once a tyre has less than 3mm of tread its its performance drops off and the prevailing road conditions.
I have never been to a crash where they were going to slowly.
Your mind is like a parachute its no use unless its open.
I agree with Frenchieboy and if you find yourself in the situation of being offered such a course take it.
We are all sensitive about our driving but driver training is always a positive thing to be embraced, your good habits get reinforced and anything learned is a bonus.
Course mirror signal mirror signal speed gear mirror signal horn acceleration. is my driving plan. But then I am old fashioned. The more modern Road Craft plan has five points.
Keep safe.
