New alpex

I agree that at the ranges suggested a glass scope is better than any digital scope currently available.
However, glass being better, doesn't mean digital is unusable and the video I linked to clearly demonstrates the usability of a digital scope at longer ranges
Yes, a decent glass scope would give a clearer, sharper image, but the guy was still hitting the targets with the zulus
So, since the title of the thread is "New Alpex", I took post#55 as meaning is the Alpex 4k suitable for corvids out to around 300 yards, and IMHO at that range using maximum digital magnification the image on the Zulus is significantly better than on the Alpex 4k
At present I am testing a HIK Alpex 4k. an Arken Zulus ZHD312R (3-12 version of the current Zulus) and an Arken TNC225 multispectral scope, so yes, I am involved with Arken but, purely as a beta tester. I have no financial or commercial involvement with Arken
Comparing the Alpex 4k with the Arken Zulus 5-20, I'd say the daytime image on the zulus is cleare and sharper than the Alpex 4k (which is why I think it would be better for longer range corvids)
At low light level with both scopes in colour mode, the Alpex retains a usable colour image for longer and does not have the image lag that is very apparent on the Zulus
In night vision mode using an LED illuminator, the Alpex gives a smoother clearer image, but when using a vcsel base IR there is very little in it
For shorter range work at night, the Alpex with an LED IR would be my choice, but for long range foxing, the Zulus with a vcsel IR would be my choice
In summary, both scopes get the job done and I don't think there's anything you could shoot with one that you couldn't shoot with the other
In fact they are so similar in overall performance that the choice of which to buy is more likely to be down to price, style, weight and battery system

Cheers

From what I've seen and read on here and other forums, if you are not being paid by them, then you are not thinking straight.

Your doing their testing, helping members out with any issues they are having including how to guides, and giving Arken feedback which they are clearly putting into place on your merit.

I would be wanting paid for that regardless of how helpful a person I was, and I am that way in helping others.

Agreed the Arken looks better in day mode, but if I was wanting to shoot out to 300 yards on corvids I'd be using a glass scope and then swapping over to the Alpex for any dusk/night shooting.

A good mounting system does this easily and is something I've done regularly over the last few weeks with just a good set of picattiny mounts and rail.

Would you be able to shoot something with the Alpex or Arken out to that range. Certainly but I'd rather I know for sure the target I was shooting at.

Not everything in life is driven by the profit motive
I've run my own one man business successfully for 30 years, so I know what it means to value and get paid for goods and services
However, shooting, and in particular night vision and thermal are my hobby - even a passion, and I don't think that's something I should be doing to make money
Night vision and thermal are a mystery to many shooters and I'm lucky enough to have some knowledge and experience of these technologies so I regard it as the right thing to do to try to pass that knowledge on to other people to perhaps help them with spending decisions in an area where they have little or no expertise
I got involved in NV and thermal back in 2012 and in all that time no manufacturer of NV or thermal equipment has been as responsive and willing to listen to and act on user feedback as are Arken.
Any "payment" I get from Arken comes in the form of the enjoyment and intellectual stimulation I get from testing equipment that has yet to reach the market and providing feedback on that equipment and seeing some of that feedback being incorporated in new and existing equipment
When asked to compare day/night scopes or recommend a day/night scope for one or more specific tasks, I don't recommend Arken ahead of other makes or models unless I genuinely believe the Arken product is better for those specific tasks and I have also tested the other model (s) in question

Cheers
