New moderator

I have used a T8 in the past but currently have an ASE SL5 on a 308.

The SL5 is very well made, compact and fairly light. It does not perform however as well as a T8 with regards to noise reduction or taking out the recoil. This is not just my opinion. Dennis Groom at Jackson rifles told me that Peter Jackson has tested almost all the mods on the go and says that the T8 is still the best in respect of noise reduction. Callum Ferguson, who was at the Lowland Deer Conference was chatting about mods and completely agreed with that sentiment.

It's a case of deciding what is more important to you. Length/weight/looks/performance/strip down or not. I had pm from another custom rifle maker I know who also said basically the same thing as Callum and Peter.

If you want short length, light weight then 4 baffles may perform well enough as a compromise, but that mod is not really going to perform as well as one with 8 baffles in it.
