I have now had my PRESISION RIFLE SERVICES 6.5 Creedmoor for a few weeks now, unfortunately I have only had two outings with it. First day out was to try a few different bullets, run in the barrel and get an approximate zero. This work took an afternoon in a cold breezy day. Second outing was to build on the bullets that performed best. To that end cartriges were assembled using Hornaday 139 grain SST, Berger 130 grain VLDs, Siera 140 grain MKs and Lapua 136 grain Scenars. A powder charge was selected for each bullet and shot for group. Each bullet was tested in a rare for this part of the world windless morning. Results were interesting, SSTs ! Oh dear. These printed around 1MOA or just over, the scenars faired quite a bit better and grouped from 0.4" to 0.7" as did the MKs. Star of the show went to the VLDs with each group bringing a big grin.
These went from 0.4" to the smallest cluster of 0.183" centre to centre. All of these groups were shot at 118 yards.
Hope the wind drops away overnight for the next test to prove the best clusters were not a fluke. If all goes well tomorow and a best powder charge is setled on. We can then work on seating depth.
Callum has made a splendid job with the build and it is a pleasure to shoot.
Just a reminder of how things came together. I was finding groups opening up with my Bergara BMP and on checking the barrel with a bore camera showed the reason why. New barrel required! so picnick packed dogs and wife comfortably seated we paid a visit to Glen Livet. Callum confirmed my findings, the lead and first third of the tube was a sad sight of fire cracking and erosion . We mulled over the options and settled on a 1 in 8.5" twist Kreiger barrel cut and threaded at 26"profilled to heavy Palma, Borden Alpine action fitted to the existing BMP chassis and Jewel trigger. The thing is a bit of a beast but will only be shot off the bench or prone within spitting distance of the car. A Wilcat T12 fits on the end and my IOR Crucader sits on top.
I am very much looking forward to finding the best load and long days at the range and hide.
