New Pup training.

Hi all. My pup will arrive end of month at 8 weeks old & I'll start on training on day 1.

I will be following Paul Michaels course for Big Game Indicating dogs, and have a few books to read as well. The dog will be used for indicating, ground scenting, as well as truffle hunting (very prevalent in my area)

Any tips or tricks would be greatfully recieved!

V best wishes

Jim

Be calm. It's more important to do little very well rather rhan a lot poorly. Think of what you need to achieve with the dog in the end. Work out methods how to achieve this. Not all methods work for all dogs

Watch the entire blue print through to the end so you know in advance the steps you will be working through. Get on the inner circle face book group for loads of support, and there are loads of podcasts and youtube videos. I'd leave the truffle hunting training until after you have completed the blue print. The pup in the blue print started at 10 weeks old - so I'd go easy for the first couple of weeks.

What breed did you get? My gut feeling is that it works better on heading dogs/collies than gundogs, although people have definitely got it to work with GWPs etc. I was never comfortable with kennelling a young dog so never really used the blueprint, just adopted some of the training principles.

Good luck with the training.

As has been said by Siggy one job at time, achieve your main objectives the other work will be easier later.

As for advice take it all in and listen to all then cherry pick what works for your dog.

What breed of pup are you getting?

Keep us posted
