New rifle .243 advise

243 ... good calibre ........Have a look at Howa ....not expensive at all and is manufactured by Miroku in Japan, the Howa is also sold by Weatherby as the Weatherby Vanguard.... the rifles are available in Synthetic or wood... I would guess in the US$800.00 region , and is a solid buy for the money........If you want , send me a PM I could also find you something second hand and exotic in South Africa and at an exceptional price.....

Ahhh may I suggest you check your information ;) Howa is an old established firm who made rifles for the Imperial Japanese Army in WW2 and make their own stuff along with rifles for Weatherby.

I've had an Xbolt in 243 for 3 months and has been sent back twice - looks pretty but seems like typical american mass-produced cr*p on closer inspection!

Magazine feed is poor, base mounting holes threaded, mounting blocks were wonky - totally fed up with it, am chopping it in asap! - You can buy mine off me for £725 if they send me a new one to replace the crap one I've had! ;)

Tikka T3, Howa, Steyr or Remington as far as I'm concerned - i know people with these and they've never had any issues!

Don;'t think you could go far wrong with a T3 Lite and a A-tec CMM-4 Moderator. I had this combination in .243 with the barrel shortened to 17". It happily fired 100gn SP accurately and was one of the lighest rifles I've seen. The plastic bits on the T3 are not really for me though.

I've got a Tikka T3 lite stainless/synthetic in .243 - shoots 100g SP factory ammo no prob!!

I'd happily have another.

Thanks guys and thanks for the guntrader links...that Sauer is very nice.

Probably go good used Tikka Sako Sauer.

SD comes in very handy, thanks agaiin.

What about a CZ 550 American wouldnt swap mine for anything shoots half inch groups. Solid mauser action cant be bettered.
Tusker

Not a bad idea tusker,i've got a CZ527 in .222 and its great, probably just me wanting a nice "expensive" gun,i like CZs good no nonsense guns.

I need to make decision my ticket will be back next week.

Then I suggest you contact the gunsmith Lon Paul in California who specialises is re-working the CZ/Brno rifles. He will strip and polish to remove all tool marks then re-finish, work over the trigger giving a perfect glass rod breaking type pull. Restyle and refinish including totally re cutting the chequering at a nice fine LPI. His work is first class but not cheap.

The article I have somewhere shows a ZKK 601 in .243 he did giving it a Rigby of London style fitting a Wisner 3 position side safety and filling the gap left by removal of the factory safety. Straightening the bolt handle to remove the slight swept back curve and filling the hollow in the ball slimming and re-shaping the stock then cutting new finer chequering by hand and applying a hand rubbed oil finish. Oh he also fitted a barrel band for the front sling loop.

This would meet with you liking for the CZ's and also th expensive bit too and you would end up with a fine customised rifle to boot.
