Night dilema

Hi all good people!

I have 223 rem without scope and want to set it for predators at night.
Distances are from 15 to 200yards, maybe up to 250 or 300 if I would certain with everything.

My friend had relatively good picture at 300 yards on fox with Vortex Crossfire 3-12x56 and pard 007v2.

I have few things on my mind:
- Pard DS 35-70
- Vortex Crossfire 3-12x56 with Pard 007v2
- maybe Pard FD1 (if I could find standing alone option)

I know that Alpex 4k is the best option, but that is away from budget for now. All setups is about 650€. And Zulus is not at my market.

I have Nocpix Lumi h35r for detection and currently using Vortex Viper 2,5-10x44 with red flashlight. Often predators recognise light, so I have to take a shot very quickly and in movement. That's why I'm in dilemma...

Vortex scopes work poorly with NV add ons like Pard. The Pard007 is an affordable solution but it will work much better if use a different scope. Something like Sightron, Delta, Hawke all work well with NV add ons.

I learned that here, but it's only scope with adjustable parallax and decent renome in the budget + it works on my friend setup.
Base magnification is usually 4x at Hawke with parallax setting, or 3x and 700€ for Endurance with lower base magnification and parallax setting.
I don't need big magnification with glass because I currently using 2,5 mag on Viper up to 70-80 yards very effective. I assume that pards mag with optics base mag would be enough for 80% situations.

I don't regret if I could see just like my friend, I'm only in dilemma if DS35-70 or stand alone FD1 are better options in the budget instead 007 on Crossfire.
Maximum distances and field of view is relevant in comparison.

For years we shot thousands of foxes with normal spotlights, I would hazard a guess that most foxes that are deemed lampshy aren’t afraid of the light but are fully aware you of your location before the light goes on.

Actually not.
Last night jackal appears from the grass in 80m. He had his way with was around my position. I watched his movement through termal monokular. When he was nearest me and 30m from big grass I switched on red flashlight. He was young and this fact is important (older take a run immediately). He just little hurried up. I lost feeling for trigger on my marlin lever action 22wmr and fired before I expected. Jackal went, but not in full run.
Few months ago, I spotted jackal on 70m from me and he was going away. When I turned red flashlight on, he changed direction and start running. I had about 2 seconds to take a shot and I did, but not precise enough, so I have to go near him and take another. Then I carried 30-06.
A week ago I saw badger 200m from me and I sneak up to 35m from him. He spotted me when I was in pine with wind direction and then started running. I have to walk around him because 30-06 is powerful enough to make me worry because village is in 1-1,5 km from me so I have to change direction of shooting.
Wind and sound are top reasons for hunters detection at night from my and my friends experience.
One my friend stand up when the dark fall because he have better angle of view. But smarter animals have reaction on flashlight even in red.

300yd is hell of a way at night. If you really do need to shoot that far, I'd say better off with the 007 to utilise objective zoom. I currently use pard ds 35-70 but I don't think I'd like the image at 300yd as much as through 007.

Yes BenBoy, I marked 300y like top distance, but I'm trying to be at 50-150 at all time. This is just for extreme IF I situations.
I found Alpex A50T-S (without illuminator) for around 500€. Is this better than Pard DS35-70?
My friends tested last night Pard laser illuminator and that was much better than led ones. Test was on 007 in compareson with built-in. Effective range was 50% longer.

I actually rate the Pard DS35/70 with the laser illuminator. I’ve shot one fox at 300m with it. The rest a well below this range. It was a needs must at the time due to lamb predation.

The daytime image isn’t great and you don’t get the dusk image like the alpex. It is light weight and a good night time performer.

I also have the DS37/70 night stalker which is the same night time image but a better day time image. If you can stretch your budget that would be the better option. I kept the DS35 because that rifle only gets used at night.

Thanks again, but DS37/70 is beyond my budget at the moment. I found it for 920€, which is near of Alpex 4k... As I mentioned, I have offer ds35-70 for 500€. If that works on fox in 300m I have my decision.

don't discount the DNT Zulus. light and compact with built in IR, LRF and Ballistic calculator and will easily see 200 yrds at night

I use the pard DS 35`70 on my 222 , 300yds isn’t a problem but you will need an add on IR . I have only had this for around 6 months and it still impresses me 😀👍🏻
