Night vision add ons

I'm slowly disappearing down a night vision rabbit hole! I don't really want to replace the day scope on my .243 so I'm looking for something to attach to it to give me night vision. It's a zeiss scope with fixed parallax and I've been told the rear mounted Pard units won't work with it, so I started looking at the front mounted Pulsar Forward F455S. However, I was told that every time you detach and re attach it to the scope, you need to re zero it, despite claims to the contrary.

I don't want to spend multiple thousands on thermal attachments, I'm quite happy with night vision.

Does anybody on here have any experience with the F455S?

Stew.

The f455 is just a clip on mate. It should have no effect on your zero mine certainly doesn’t.
They are a bit marmite some folk just don’t get on with them. The illuminator is a bit naff and the controls are a bit of a stretch and take a bit to get used to. They tend to work better on lower end scopes due to coatings on the glass. Personally I rate them and can be picked up quite cheap second hand these days.

I like my F455, it's a compromise, it'll never be as good as a dedicated NV scope, but it fits in my game bag when, when it's too dark to see with the binos, they go in the bag and the F455 comes out, clips on and that's it, one rifle, one scope, great when you're sitting out for cubs in a far out spot.

Personally when I had one I couldn’t wait to get grid of it. POI changes, hideously poor quality when zoomed in at anything above 5x. There’s a reason they are cheap second hand but if others like them fair play but I thought it dreadful.

As I understand it, Digital NV is still somewhere around Gen II I2 resolution, which isn't great, but useable. I'd be more curious if it has the same issue with other standard I2 clip-ons; in that if it doesn't have a collimated lens, then POI shifts occur when it is taken on and off.

Again, I'm not an expert on Clip-on's, as I tend to just use firearms with dedicated NV/thermal scopes. But figured I'd toss that out for discussion by those more knowledgeable than I on non-US/non-ITAR NV options available.

Don't replace your scope
Simply fit it with good quality quick detach mounts, buy a dedicated NV scope like the HIK Alpex or Pulsar Digex C50 and put another set of QD mounts on it.
Swap scopes as and when you need and get the best out of each scope

Cheers

Bruce
Or even a photon. There was one on here for £130.

Has anyone swapped out the standard pulsar IR that comes with the F455 and if so is their any notable differences?

I made the mistake of selling my day glass to help fund NV. To my mind there is absolutely no comparison between looking through glass and digital NV, even one with a great day-sight picture. Really regret my decision. But I couldn't have everything!
My mate who stalks tried an add-on and it's now gathering dust. Drove him nuts. He did exactly what mealiejimmy suggested - put a pic rail on his Sako and puts his NV unit on as soon as the light goes and he starts going after the foxes.

There is no way I'd be swapping out sights without a zero check each time and I ain't doing that either and guess most don't have a facility to do that!
I've gone back to add on or clip on.
The pard units take some getting use to.
Others are easier to learn.
But once learnt you are done.
No zero shift issues and glass in the daylight.

My thoughts entirely.
But Stewart may have to change his lovely Zeiss scope for something not so nice to use a digital rear add-on.

Hmm, not being a scope tart I didn't think of that. Tough at the top so they tell me.

For the price of zee German scope one could buy an infra red friendly scope and a sytong or pard....

I'm not to sure on the assumption that a front mounted add on will not affect zero!

Depending on how well it mounts every time of course any image positional influences that end of a scope will affect zero.
