Non lead for 177 air rifle

Gary Chillingworth did a video for Shooting and Country TV on YouTube about non toxic pellets.
I can't remember if he tried different brands or what calibre he was using but I remember the results were poor!

H&N barracuda Green and BSA Greenstar performed very well out of a sub 12 pcp and springer of mine.

Manufacturers recommend decent accuracy out to 30 metres however iirc?

The ones I tried had poor accuracy, were expensive and went well over the limit. Over 2ft lbs more than lead pellets so can’t use them, but they’re not very good anyway. I think they were h&n? To keep them legal the rifle would need to be running at around 9ft lbs with lead pellets.

Just found these on my phone shooting at 25 yards, 1 from my daystate and the other my HW50, both are 177.. Falcons were lead, the other 3 are all non lead.
That’s good accuracy, my hw99s wouldn’t group with the lead free that I tried, did you chrono them?

I remember buying sussex sabot and prometheus pellets back in the mid/late 80’s they were the big thing in airgun world and airgunner magazine at the time. Awful at everything apart from separating me and my pocketmoney as far as i remember!
One thing that does stick in my mind with them was you needed to really clean the barrel before shooting them, i know these had plastic components ( that after a few shots in an uncleaned lead fouled barrel literally tore them to bits) but it might be worth a try atleast in these new lead is the devil times??

I fear that they, like firearm equivalents, will work if driven hard enough ie FAC but for standard 12 ft lb I have major doubts, that's before you even start to think about ricochet risks, as the vast majority of my work as a professional pest controller is inside buildings at relatively close ranges

I found some of the ones I used, they’re h&n ftt green. Tried them last night in my fac impact. The accuracy was horrendous even at 25 yards. Tried them at power level “low, 1 and 2” they went supersonic at level 2. Accuracy was very poor at all those power levels. Low is around 19ft lbs.

H&N ftt green, ten shots aimed at the centre target at 25 yards. Terrible….😕

I’ll be sticking to my QYS streamlined heavies until lead is banned (hoping we never see the day) and if we do then my air rifle will probably be useless!!

I just can not see it happening for some classes of firearms. There are millions of airguns, they are built around lead pellets.
There are thousands of black powder revolvers and pistols.
Then there are the thousands of black powder rifles. They are all built around lead!

Considering no one regularly dies purely from shooting lead directly be it from handling it or eating game shot with it compared to deaths related to drinking and smoking, still legal pastimes, I have to ask, why? 🤷

The problem smellydog, as I see it, is you can't tell people that lead in shooting form is so deadly " you're all going to die " ( even if it's not true ) then tell them that some lead is still ok or that you need years to find a solution for it, that's not how government works, if you tell people it's dangerous then government generally acts. Not they're problem if air guns don't work anymore, in fact even better as they haven't banned them they just " died out". I really can't believe the shooting organisation's didn't see this when they opened the genie's bottle.

I understand that argument but if that is the replacement now for common sense then surely there should be a mad rush to remove it from roofs, water pipes and batteries not to mention the countless applications where lead is used in all sorts of industry.

I don't expect any answers. I'm just trying to understand this world today. I tell you what, if ever this earth stops I'm getting off it!
