Non Toxic .243 rounds such as those sold by " Fox". Has anyone used these 80 grain " Fox" rounds and to what ranges /effect???.They should be legal for use on red deer soon??

Fox bullets work well. I did try the 80gn a few years ago in my Heym SR20 - worked well on paper, but being in Scotland I wanted to stick with 100gn.

I have used Fox 130 in 7mm and they work very well.

Now that there has been an amendment to the Deer Scotland Order allowing a min 80gn bullets of any type to be used on all deer species I am going to give them another go.

Having seen the way monolithic bullets work and how they keep their weight I have no doubt that on bigger deer they will penetrate well. The permanent and temporary wound cavity might slightly smaller in diameter than that of the 7mm, but a hole through the vital heart and lungs will have a quickly terminal effect on any deer.

Given their additional velocity I expect the the 80gn bullets will arrive on target with more, or pretty much the same energy as the slower 100gn bullets.

the 80gr 243 Fox classic puts out more muzzle and terminal energy that any 100gr .243 ammo and is used to great effect on much bigger red deer than we have in Scotland

perfectly capable of felling anything in the UK inside normal stalking distances.
Anyone using a ,243 non lead on deer and pushing the ranges past 3-350m is probably needing to change cartridge or get closer in my opinion as it leaves very little margin for error and much reduced terminal velocity.

We also have a 100gr Peregrine .243 ammo and projectiles which work well in 1:10" rifles

You dont need to use a frangible bullet to get effective terminal effect in non lead
plenty of options that maintain original mass

I use 80 grain Fox through my .243 with absolutely no issues. Have used them in PPU brass available from Edinburgh Rifles and now currently use the same bullet but in my Norma brass.

I currently get mine semi custom assembled via Corinium range; and Paul will sort a suitable solution/combination for your particular rifle.

Once my current batch is done though, I will be switching to home loading to Paul's specs for my rifle.

Not far from Worcestershire @Nimrod1960, so may be worth a trip out?

At the risk of hijacking Anser’s post (sorry Anser) has practical experience shown a reduction in carcass damage when using this type of projectile for engine room shots ? I think I have seen this claimed in other threads.

Or am I in danger of straying into a minefield of projectile frangibility, terminal energy and the disproportionate influence of V within MV2 ?

I am seriously considering going lead free the next time I re-stock.

Im new to the stalking game so im cautiously picking my way through the data on this site trying to separate the usual bravado style input on ammunition from the facts really .Ill chat to Ed up at Edinburgh rifles for some input on reloading /working up loads

Worth a watch.

Absolutely
a non frangible non lead round will produce less subcutaneous and intramuscular bruising when placed in the same location
a double high shoulder just under the spine would produce a lot of meat loss with a frangible lead or frangible non lead
with an expanding non lead that maintains its original mass it just punches through and leaves a neat hole through skin, bone, flesh, organs etc
