None eject

Whilst zeroing my Tikka 595 222 yesterday I found it's not ejecting the cases.
It's the same home loads I've used for a couple of years.
Has anyone had this problem or could tell me what the problem may be.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ray
Classic problem with Tikka M595 in .223 & .222.

The extractor claw used is a ‘one size fits all’, ie it’s the same one used for the .308 family of cases which have a larger diameter rim, hence there is less extractor in contact with the smaller diameter rim of your .222.

I had exactly this issue & know any number of other shooters who have had it too.

Norman Clark Gunsmiths in Rugby are very used to rectifying this issue so suggest you get the rifle down to them if you can. Mine went there & when it came back it was throwing empties out nicely - when it went in it was simply dropping them in the action.

That's what mine is doing, dropping it in the action.
As I live in Scotland it's not feasible to get it to Norman Clarks.

As suggested I'm going to try and strip it and give it a deep clean.

I’m sure Edinburgh rifles can sort it. Ed is in Moffat all the time so could probably do a drop off

check the little spring loaded plunger that flicks the cartridge out isn't jammed in by dirt or brass shavings ?

it sounds like the extractor claw is gripping the case as it's pulling it out of the chamber but the plunger isn't flicking it clear ?

i have had the plunger jam in with brass shavings on really hot loads....

Thanks for the reply.
I've checked and the "plunger" seems to be working. Spring seems strong and pushes in and returns back strongly.

My rifle has done the same, doesnt like norma ammo. Extractor rides over the rim and you have to knock it out with a cleaning rod.

Changed cases and had no issues...

😃 I've always used Norma ammo, no issues until now.
No issues removing the case from the breach but seems to want to eject it to early, leaving it loose on top of the mag.

You probably have a buildup of crud and fossilised oil preventing the extractor from engaging the rim properly.
Try taking it out and cleaning both it and the slot it fits into. Use a tooth pick.

Sounds like it's doing just that.
How do I take it apart?.

I've just looked at three videos on YouTube, none as yet show that part.
I'm still looking.

Thanks Mark
This and another six videos I've watched, don't show how to remove the extractor 😩

There is a thread on here, but also a quick search gives some instructions from here that may or may not be useful :):)

To remove the extractor from a Tikka 595, follow these steps:

  1. Use a small screwdriver or a mechanic's pick set to grip the bolt.
  2. Place a ziploc bag over the bolt to protect it from debris.
  3. Push the detent pin down while gently tipping the extractor back or outward.
  4. If necessary, use a magnet to hold the extractor in place during the removal process.
  5. Be cautious as the extractor can be tricky to handle and may require a bit of finagling to remove.
These steps are designed to help you safely and effectively remove the extractor without causing damage to the rifle. Always ensure you have the right tools and are prepared for any challenges that may arise during the process
    :)

Try factory ammo just to properly rule that out. Id also clean the chamber with a bronze chamber brush incase there is dirt in there. Then id dip, soak and scrub the bolt, extractor and lugs in a light solvent like meths. Plus wiggling the extractor around. Id do this a fwe times then dry and re-oil it.

If you e cleaned the extractor claw and it still does the non eject - chances are the claw has over time rounded off

Or your cases have been reloaded many times and done the same ,,,

Extractor is part of a specific extractor kit for 595/695 that is supplied by GMK importer for tikka

It is a self fit if you are competant diy

You will need a vice with soft jaw to hold the bolt and appropriate sized punch for the rill
In

Do not punch the pin out or punch it the wrong way

You also need to remove firing pin first
