North Island of New Zealand

I am a deer stalker in the North Island of New Zealand (mainly Reds and Japs where I am)

We hunt in what you would consider to be jungle with some open plains stuff also available as clearings and river flats in the jungle or “tops” above the tree line. South Island of NZ has some more open country

New Zealand is full of great British rifles from the past but is now slowly getting over run by brands like Ruger. As a hunter and a collector I own several Parker Hale M98 variants of hunting rifles and some BSA variants too. I have lots and lots of different calibres. Mainly 308, 3006, and 270 in British rifles though. (Lots of .303 military rifles too)

I also like to restore these rifles to working condition (new barrels and recoil pads are almost always required because most have been shot out over their 50 to 60 years life). You will find me here asking questions about parts and upgrades to these rifles (yes it probably costs more to restore a Parker Hale than buy a new Ruger American)

I am also interested to someday learn how to hot blue rifle actions and other parts. I also reload and have several presses.

Welcome to the forum, great to hear about the hunting in NZ and also the trends in types of rifles being used. Friends of ours moved to Auckland from Dunedin on a temporary basis but I think the climate and place has given them pause for returning! Sounds a great place to be. Enjoy the forum.

Welcome, I've great memories of of my short time in New Zealand and North Island.
I stayed and worked in Devonport but managed to spread my wings a bit. 👍
