NV advice

Morning everyone, looking for some advice regarding NV. I have recently been granted a .308 for deer and boar ( a few have been spotted on one of my perms) and have bought a sako 85 I also have a howa .223 that I’ve been using foxing with a sightmark wraith (old version) and am thinking of upgrading to either a purpose built unit ( hik alpex etc) or maybe a add on ( pard 007 or similar) I’m thinking that an add on would be better as I could use it on both rifles if needed . Share your thoughts please

IMHO, current day/night scopes like the HIK Alpex 4k and the Arken Zulus are now good enough that, for typical deer shooting ranges, they provide an image good enough to take safe, humane shots at any time of day or night.
With suitable quick release mounts one scope could be moved form rifle to rifle without loss of zero

Cheers

Id say it depends on the ratio you do day/night shooting. Also what glass do you already have on, or want to put on?
I think you’d call it budget glass, the .308 has a thrive 4-16x50, pretty good for the price. The .223 has the wraith as I’ve only been foxing with it, wondering if people are needing/using nv for boar. I’m guessing that boar shooting will be odd occasion but likely to be foxing with the .223 more.

Thanks Bruce how high does the Arken Zulus sit on your rifle? The wraith is pretty high, bulky unit and sat on a Picatinny rail it is possibly affecting my accuracy as there’s not a comfortable rest for my cheek, going to try a cheek riser 🤞
Like your clips of the Arken

The Arken Zulus is a "hanging off the back of the rifle" style scope, whereas the Alpex 4k is a traditional style scope that uses standard 30mm rings
This is the Zulus mounted on a Tikka T1X using an extended picatinny rail to get the scope back far enough.
Because the stock has a comb raiser, the height of the scope is not a problem
Holding zero is not a problem. Also. I can take the scope off the rail and refit it without loss of zero

Have a look at this video from an Arken Zulus day/night scope taken at more than one hour after sunset
The roe deer is around 400 yards away and although I'm not suggesting that people should be shooting deer at that distance, it shows how god the image is and that it would be possible if absolutely necessary

Lovely image at that distance, is it what you use on deer? What calibre? Is it possible to have multiple profiles to switch between guns?

In truth, I don't shoot many deer, but several people I know are using Arken Zulus scope on their deer rifles from 243 up to 308 and not having any problems.
The Zulus can store up to 26 different profiles so switching between guns is a doddle

Thanks Bruce very interesting, I reckon they should be offering you commission on sales, your information is clear and very relatable. Your videos are great 👍 definitely going to be a strong contender
