NV question

I'm now satisfied after trying numerous methods that dedicated NV/thermal certainly is not for me, so I've moved on trying to find a suitable add on for the occasional lamp shy fox. Last year I had a good 8-10 which took me 3-4 outings per fox to finally bag, and to be honest I haven't that time to spare anymore even if once upon a time I use to revel in the challenge lol

I've tried the rear digital add ons, don't like them neither so now I'm on to the forward mounting devices. I've bought an old cobra blade which I need test before the 14 day return policy expires which I intend to do tomorrow night.

My questions are :-

1, I understand bright light will damage the tube, is this at anytime or only when the device is switched on..??

2, what am I looking for regarding any existing damage that the previous owner may has cause through neglect with bright light

3, does anyone use a cobra blade with ir, if so do you have a photo of the ir mounted to the unit

Thanks

There will be people with a better knowledge than me but the tube can only be damaged if the unit is on but still keep the lense cap on in the day just incase its accidently turnt on, as for damage your looking for a nice clean bright image without to many black dots in it and look to see that there isnt a dull almost shaded area in the centre of the picture which will be where the tube has been "burnt" by the previous owner using to much IR the image should be the same brightness edge to edge. Also bear in mind the differnce in image brightness on a moon lit night compared to a cloudy dark night will be significant

Just returned home from testing the unit. Initially I was very pleased with the field of view, (compared to the digital add ons) and the brightness, quite a dark night too..!! I then checked for burn marks, and there's one just off centre that's quite noticeable, and a few others that you wouldn't see unless you was putting some effort in trying to find them. The field I was in was barley stubble, bales still there so plenty to look at, but more importantly a number of badgers which is why I went there. The first badger appeared around 200y away, and came within 30y after a short while. At no point was the badger in focus, and that was on base mag, x4..!! For me personally I was only able to 100% identify it at 60-70y with the nv unit so it's going back..! Fortunately none of tonight's foxes were lamp shy, dog, vixen and three cubs with thermal spotter and lamp
