Nymphs in Chiller/Fridge

Hi all, how do you sort out the nymph ticks in the chiller? It looks like the inside is heavily infested after a weekend cull. Is there any food safe chemical to use for or should i keep the door closed for a couple of weeks and set the temperature at 0 C degree?
How long it takes for them to die?
Tia.

Peracetic acid diluted to 3% kills everything and is food safe.

Spray it over the inside and then shut the door and don’t go in for half an hour!
Then swill down and it will be super clean and smell a bit of vinegar.

Turn it off, if you can, ( take what carcases are in it out ) let the temperature rise until the suckers are active.
Spray in a can of fast acting bug spray.
Turn it on for long enough for the fans to spread it around and leave overnight.
Next day brush it down and wipe it out with an approved disinfectant.
Put the carcasses back in and repeat as required.

Nice ! Interesting….what is peracetic acid normally used for ? Ie is there a commonly available branded product that can easily be bought for non licenced use , or is it something a bit top shelf ? In the south east of the uk Uk ( where I predominantly hunt) I never have such problems , but last year when in Germany I had a few rather laden deer. Thing is, in Germany most cleaning products in the shops don’t go much beyond the performance of organic diluted vinegar…..

Kindest regards, Olaf

It’s used as a commercial kitchen cleaner and for sterilising operating theatres, but farmers use it for killing bacteria in their barns after mucking out.
One of my farming friends introduced me to it and we use it on anything where we need to kill everything off.
Just don’t breathe the fumes (cos it’s acidic!) and wear gloves and goggles.

Ah, Perfect, Thanks for the reply . I will ask some friends about it who own an Organic dairy farm where I hunt in Germany, indeed one of them has had Lymes disease for several years so is probably well informed on what’s allowed and works there. I will post my findings when I’ve spoken to them; if they are of use to others . ..

This is exactly the answer i’ve been after. Food safe, it kills ticks and doesn’t destroy stainless steel walls of the chiller.
I’ve just purchased a 30 litre bottle and will do spraying over the weekend.
Many thanks for your suggestion.

did you test vinagre & or citric acid. both are harmless on venison but mae be not so digestible for ticks?
