I've been informed basc will not get involved in any case involving criminal convictions. on more than one occasion.

Leigh. Hopefully you will get an encouraging response. However the difficulty the licensing unit will have is that they must have a good reason to run a full criminal records and police intelligence checks on you. Accessing the PNC without good cause, according to the rules laid down is rightly a sacking offence.
If you get a response saying that you must make an application before a decision is made, don't be discouraged.
The criminal convictions that you declared on here are no longer relevant to an application for a firearm certificate, other than you must declare them.
I had twelve years as a firearms and explosives licensing manager, so know just a bit about it.
Join the club, complete your probationary term, become a full member, then make your application. Job done.
 
Mate id listen to unkle norm, he is a trust worthy guy that knows his stuff. Also alot of forces take months with paper work so dont hold your breath, with regards to joining basc or any other org they will only help you with problems that happen during membership, if you get a refusal and then join they wont help

It will probably help if you tell Plod that you are a member of BASC, or similar, no matter how recent you joined. Join BEFORE your appeal, but I doubt you will get turned down if you have not been in bother for a long time.
 
Leigh you will need to submit an FAC application form to get refused. Simple as that and then you can work forward from there..
They will not tell you over the phone or via email whether you will be successful with an application.:thumb:
 
I have not seen anything in this thread that would present reasons for refusing an application for a firearm certificate. Mention of refusal, appeal to the Crown Court, BASC making representations etc. are currently premature. The convictions declared are not relevant now.
If the OP is fit to possess firearms, has a good reason, and can be entrusted to possess a firearm without danger to public safety or the peace, he will be granted a firearm certificate. That is how it is.:):banghead::thumb:
 
I couldn't agree more Uncle Norm with those words..
(I have not seen anything in this thread that would present reasons for refusing an application for a firearm certificate)...
Historic minor offences that's all. I wouldn't hesitate to get an application posted if I were Leigh..
I recall seeing a case file some years ago relating to a chap who`d been convicted of armed robbery. Some time later after being released from prison he went on to obtain a job as a Gamekeeper. He also went on to be arrested, charged and convicted of illegal possession of ammunition.
Several years after that he applied for a shot certificate and was refused. He then made a civil case for an appeal against the chief officer of Police for his area and Un believably he won his case.
He must of been some convincing smooth talker that's all I can say..
Every case is different and they are all judged on there own merits..

I would start by waiting until your police record arrives...you might be pleasantly surprised by what’s in (Or not in) the record!
When renewing my cert recently I was asked to disclose any convictions that were more serious than parking fines, so that meant speeding fines or careless driving etc needed to be listed.
For a tenner I bought my record, and, low and behold, it had nothing on it, even though I had a speeding conviction from 2 years previous.
A man can’t be expected to remember all misdemeanours, can he?
I also think, lots of records will have been “lost” when systems were made digital.

I'm not proud but I was a tear away as a youth, And I got done for a lot more than nicking cars/ car stereos ( I never nicked owt though)

ive had my own FAC and sgc for 20 + years,( I'm 45)

Just be honest and you will be reet

Bit of an update: although i have not applied yet to join the club mainly because the pnc check hasn't come through i have received an informative response from the fire arms licencing team via email. The outlook sounds quite positive due to the time that has passed since the convictions happened although not guaranteed which i fully understand.

Have also been kindly assured that no past convictions would be disclosed to the club in the event of an application problem or licence refusal although entry in to the club may not happen as quickly due to further checks being made which they would indeed be aware of. The advice given is to actually apply for a licence before joining the club as it appears the club application would not be supported without further checks..
I know when i joined previously the application for the club only mentioned about prohibited persons and asked for two referees but i wonder if the process has changed a bit as there were certainly no issues back then.
I think my main concern in the circumstances would be applying for a licence with no club membership under my belt so am wondering if to apply before but to start with an fac air rifle and if all goes well join the club and go for a rim fire etc later after being at the club for a while?
I already target shoot quite often on our own property which extends to about 40m at back with open fields so not sure if this would be ok for an fac air rifle regarding good reason to have one without club membership for time being.

Interested to know what you guys think?
 
Make sure no projectile can leave your property. Don't mention the open fields at the back, as it might imply that pellets end up going over your boundary.
 
Just apply for your FAC giving your good reason, mate. Sounds as though you'll be just fine
