Off road Vehicle recovery

Pretty much any 4x4 off road kit supplier. There are some super expensive titanium alloy ones that will make you cough, but typical everyday ones are only a few quid. This will get you going. Type 'snatch block' into e bay.
 
You should also consider what you are pulling from or tying to. The towing eyes that they put on most cars are for anchoring the vehicle for transportation or towing on good roads. If you are going to be using in anger you should fit recovery points such as these on the front of my Amarok, you could lift it off the ground with theses

Has anyone used a hand winch (and rope round nearest tree) to move a car? I've been looking at one online that is rated for 3 tonnes which should be enough. I've got stuck twice recently, last time with a trailer load of logs which I had to unload again which was a pain in the neck.

Are you talking about a tirfor?
If so prepare for arms like popeye!
