Omicron

I have been listening to the experts in SD for 2 years including the sharp guy with big ears that lives in Ireland.

Modeling of millions of deaths, Lockdowns, track and trace wear your mask, spray everything in alcohol, deep cleansing, scan, get your pcr test, rapid antigen tests, self isolate, make sure your 5 year old has their 4th booster, no booze parties, and we can eliminate this virus , slow it down and save the health system and the 104 year olds. If we can save just one life it was all worth it.

Or

It was a complete load of bollocks. And it made no difference anyway.

Im so confused.
Seal your borders forever. 10 days in isolation hotel quarantine for those entering. 24 days isolation for a positive test. What a way to not live, and try to shut out the real world.

In the UK, or at least England, we are about to move on to the next experiment, where all precautions are to be removed. Starts next Thursday. Lets see how that goes. Frankly around here that might as well have happened quite a few weeks ago. Nevertheless, jabbed and boosted up to the max. I will still wear my mask and be cautious. As will most of my friends and family. And continue to take lateral flow tests before social engagements. They may not be particularly effective, but if they do show positive you have fairly certainly got it.

It has not gone away, It still can be utterly miserable to have, if not worse, long Covid is I think real, not just for hypochondriacs, so I, personally will continue to be cautious.

I got glandular fever during 2nd year at Uni., badly, which affected my studies (had to take six months out), and continued to affect me for at least another four years, fortunately I had an understanding employer. If long covid is anything like that I would wish that on anyone.

Almost everyone I know has had it, I suspect even I might have, in early 2020, but for most of the people I know, family, friends, acquaintances, random strangers who seem to like to talk to me, it has been anything from nothing except a positive test, to a week or more of unpleasantness, to something more lingering. And yes I knew several who actually died from it, not just with it.

Omicron, thank goodness, seems to have mutated into something that might persist, by not killing off too many of its hosts with severe symptoms, displacing Delta, meanwhile possibly boosting that fabled "herd immunity". But who knows what might be the next twist coming up.

Meanwhile happy to have had Astra Zenica x2 and Pfizer, two different mechanisms, most very common reactions experienced, no big deal. Things were looking very bleak around January 2021, thank goodness the UK led the world in mass vaccination. I would take great exception to any argument that vaccination has been irrelevant to fighting the pandemic, then normalising and learning to live with the endemic for the rest of our lives.

Plus the intensive research into the new vaccines may lead to promising new areas of application for other diseases, soon. Vaccination has probably been the most important benefit to public health as antibiotics, if not more so.

New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern cancels wedding plans due to Omicron surge

Whoa. Steady on. NZ are talking about 24 days quarantine for close contacts not positive cases. Can't be too careful following the precautionary principle.

Hope flu won’t make a comeback .
That is an interesting point. Fear has been that Covid precautions may have weakened our immunity due to lack of exposure, whilst it circulates all year around, no big deal in Summer but dangerous in Winter. But AFAIK, touch wood, seems not to have happened yet. Some theory that covid vaccinations may also be effective against it (another coronavirus). I, of course, got my 'flu jab too.

BTW, the ones I knew who died from it were before vaccines. They had no chance.

Winter is not even properly here yet, nor might it come (climate change etc.)

Deadly. Still. We just have to live (and die) with it. And keep on getting vaxed (it's better than not)

Geezus l didn't realize the death toll was so high from influenza.

You know what needs to be done.

Flu, and "Covid" are similar viruses.

We had the Spanish Flu pandemic.
Then the Hong Kong Flu
Then the Swine Flu

SARS, MERS (still a thing), etc.

It would be a lot worse without the flu jab.

As would pneumonia, often developed during flu (or covid) a bacterial infection, for which two vaccinations provide lifetime protection (I've had those too).

As well as for polio, TB, yellow fever, diphtheria, tetanus etc. But caught measles, mumps and chicken pox so hopefully never again.

That makes sense. You get pneumonia from a virus such as influenza and take a vaccine for pneumonia from a bacterial infection rather than an antibiotics.

Wait what? I'm so confused.

Ive had double pneumonia. Life threatening. Scarred lungs, repeat respiratory issues for life ie bad lung infections and lower lung function / oxygen levels.

Weeks of IV antibiotics required!

Had pneumonia at least 4 times. The last major one resulted in thoraic surgery and removal of half a lung.
But don't let me stop you enjoying your life. It hasn't stopped me.

World Council for Health??

Do you really not do any research into your sources?

If only one subset of scientists espoused a view, and they put forward no data to support that, you would do well to have reservations.

What if multiple doctors around the world came to the same conclusion and presented supporting data?

Classen used UK MHRA data from the Yellowcard system and identified a very strong statistical link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and a rise in Parkinsons.

Also in the USA, a clinical pathologist has put together a data-laden presentation of the pathology induced by these vaccines:

Wait what? I'm so confused. Annoying.

A) Flu (virus) > Death
B) Flu > weakened immune system > Pneumonia (bacterial) > Death
C) Pneumonia > Death

For Flu, also substitute Covid

Vaccines against Flu exist, are adjusted every year in anticipation of the many strains that are in circulation. Partially effective. Much like Covid vaccines.

Vaccines against many strains of Pneumonia exist, and are fairly effective against those strains, for life. They are recommended for many people, including all adults over 65.

Pneumonia Vaccine: Should I Get It?

These are the stats for Flu deaths alone, published by our Office for National Statistics in Feb. 2021, in response to a Freedom of Information Request.

Influenza deaths in 2018, 2019 and 2020 - Office for National Statistics

From which you may deduce that Flu alone rarely kills people. But Pneumonia does.

2019 total mortality from Flu 1,223. From Flu + Pneumonia 26,398. Think about that and ask for the vaccination if you think you might be vulnerable. Don't forget the annual Flu one either.
