Out last night.

Out tonight with the GWP , was wondering if anyone else took the dog out when shooting foxes. 1st time I've shot a fox with him and once he found it in the long grass he gave it a good ragging . Ive tried to forward the the picture from my phone to iPad but not worked. Got a vixen who was obviously suckling Cubs so will be out tomorrow with the JR to deal with them in the two nearby earths that are opened up, don't like to leave pups to starve.
I would try to keep the dog off charlie, they carry a multitude Of problems.

Resurrection of thread,:norty:, Friday night was near enough a Strawberry moon I believe, well, first time out with two handed TI, one in left hand, one on top of the rifle,... Sheeesh!, the strike was pretty damned conclusive, a thump as usual but accompanied by a paint ball splash, as hot interior components were vented to atmosphere.

Last nights full shift through to first light was yet another eye opener, went to a farm that we are grateful to use for impromptu zeroing sessions, been remiss on our foxing visits, Splash number one dead on 10 pm, second one just at 11 pm, then on through the night major frustrations, as multiple appearances in amongst the Cattle or in front of Horses, & up against very expensive equipment,:doh::doh:, still it was nice to see other denizens of the night ,Brock had no idea he was being "Painted", Barn owls were in plentiful numbers, & at least three different Bat sizes were present feeding on the myriad moths and other flying bitie things, will have to go back again when stock levels are less in numbers.

Been busy with work of late, so a bit late with report, Last visit was to an old sand quarry I used to work in, now all re instated & doing functions of one sort or another, Mike stayed up by the old weighbridge site, & I took the low ground next to the neighbours wood, by 10 O'clock I'd emptied the magazine for five fox & off for the last round in the local.:thumb:

After an enforced break from my usual night time ventures, I am now about to go back to it, with a sizeable chunk of ground to go at, (just short of 800 acres), will be going boundary walking & listing any no shoot zones .... all just in time for lambing !

As this ground has been back squadded for next season, I have managed to aquire a solid chunk of 600 acres within 5 minutes drive from my place, was chauferred around it yesterday in the mule by the owner, signs were that I am needing to purchase a large roll of black bags today, first all nighter for nearly three years tonight.:fox:

Just resurfaced from a quick visit to the sack, Minus 3c for 8 hours after sundown, last night's initial visit really just to show willing, as the moon was a big player, also turned out to be an exercise in control, Fox appeared around 10.30, stayed to annoy for two hours, before leaving .... lined up around thirty or so times but none safe, reminded me of early days on stabling properties ... I will have her Wednesday eve though, then go & see what all the calling was about further over.

Had this lamb pulled out of a dead ewe by something last night the wee had died a day earlier and was to be picked up by the shepherd. When he went to do so he found the lamb removed , there is a second still in the ewe. Not seen a fox do this before and lots of badgers frequent the field. Is this the work of a fox or a badger. No smell of fox at the site .

Yeh just confirmed my own thoughts , I’ve seen them bite the muzzle off lambs before when the lamb was inquisitive and sniffed the badger, crushed muzzle and the lamb can’t suckle and dies. The numbers are going through the roof here over past two years.
