Out last night.

Tonight I gave a try to YouTube predator calls, since my whistle was not giving good results(nordik mini predator). I started with the one with highest number of plays, two minutes after two jackals were looking at me from a stone wall about 100 m away. One got shot, the other not so sure.

If someone wants to try it, just search for predator hunting call, cottontail distress.

A change of scenery last night, back at the golf course.
Usual drill at the first stand, set the caller up to draw them into a safe area to shoot. Intermittent calling for 40 mins brought nothing so going moblie was on the cards. One last scan up the fairway one had appeared so another burst of vixen on heat caught its attention and soon had it trotting down to the caller.
Lost sight of it behind the raised green momentarily but reappeared bounding in to the caller and made a speculative lunge.
Just managed to tag it as it made off.

I was out last night until 24:00.
Found a fox but it slipped over higher ground. I pursued at a snail pace but it was gone.
Hopefully see it again this weekend.

Good shot!

Approx two weeks to the first lambs, should be running the new Vixen .222 by then, going to sit the T Cepter on it.:fox:
We hardly had any foxes 3 weeks ago untill my neighbour hired out his stubble turnips for sheep grazing, bloody things are everywhere now, saw 4 last night & heard another calling, shot one at 20 yards that came to a teal whistle, another over 200 that was checking out molehills, still.. it keeps me busy! First couple of hours after dark seems to be the sweet spot.

I've also noticed this over the last few years, if there are sheep on turnips anywhere near the bottom field I can always shoot several from the house, they just keep coming to a little bit of fox chum. I think the turnips give them an easy passage about the place, just enough cover and firm clean footing for them as well.

I think they follow the livestock trailer.

Hadn’t seen anything for a while and the bait pipes remained untouched. Having knocked over 14 in the first three weeks of the month I was feeling happy. But of course they just keep on coming. A couple of baits got hit late. I only run the trail cameras up until 2400. At this time of the year that’s longer than I want to be out and at least I can see if it’s a 🦊 or 🦡 .
I clocked a fox coming down the side of a wood at speed. By the time I had got the rifle up on the sticks he was obscured by branches and slipped into the end of the wood. I moved position and waited to see if he would reemerge.
No joy after 10 minutes and I heard pheasants cocking deeper in the wood.
I moved off to another spot and got set up. A cold still night with little moon 🌒. After 1/2 an hour a fox appeared a good distance away. It mooched in my general direction but suddenly reversed and took off back into the wood to join its partner ! Shortly afterwards one appeared coming down a ditch and obligingly came across the field towards me.
Happy ending,💥🦊. Unfortunately the vixen,as it transpired, was on the other side of the ditch and took off at a rate of knots. There’s always tomorrow.IMG_4055.webp

Question for anyone with an opinion. 🙄

Out for a walk around today, being the last one of the season, and one of the sheep pastures has a serious mole infestation. A few yards out from the strip of trees and the ground had been seriously ripped up as if by boar, except that there aren’t any boar anywhere near my region. Would this be badger or fox?

PS, drew a complete blank, bugger. ☹️

Hi All, went out foxing last night, corner of the field spiny on the right then 2 mtr clear margin then 15mtr of pheasant maize cover crop on the left then the field. 120mtr down to bottom hedge. I saw the dog fox come through the bottom hedge and turn left into the maize cover crop at a pace, I could only see him spasmodically as bits of him showed up on the thermal. I waited until he got to the 2mtr margin he went straight over. I fired he took 2 steps and jumped 2mtrs straight up into the air landed in the spiny and that was the last I saw of him.
This is where my luck ran out and operator error crept in, then the vixen showed herself as I pulled back the bolt to eject the empty case but not quite far enough as I pushed it forward and got the empty case stuck in the receiver and between the magazine. By the time I had got it free and a live cartridge inserted into the chamber the vixen was gone.
So I walked down the 100m to the site where the dog fox was shot at and nothing. I searched about for an hour, now about midnight, but nothing. I was thinking it could have been shot in the lungs that could have made it go virtically straight up in my experience what do you think guys?

Usually if an animal leeps up and stretched legs for deer it's heart shot but I'm confused with the two steps after the shot 🤷

So I got the address of a fox last night in a field I don’t often frequent. A plan was made and I moved a portable high seat into the field this afternoon. A walk along the side of the wood showed a couple of likely spots where Charlie might slip in or out. I had saved some fat from some well larded Sika hinds I shot last week and judiciously popped these around these spots.
Getting dusky at 545 I climbed into the high seat. All was quiet and I settled in to wait. I’d clocked the fox at about 630 so reckoned I was in time. Brrr, it was a bit chilly. True to form, shortly after 630 a fox appeared over a stone wall and wandered across the field. Unfortunately it went off around the other side of the wood ! I blasphemed quietly to myself.
Still, patience is a virtue. 15 minutes later another fox came over the wall only 30-35 yards upwind of me. Bol###cks ! I took the shot and it tore off across the field and stopped. 🤔🤔🤔. I cracked off another round with the scope perfectly focused at that range. Down it went.
On inspection I may have hit it low on the first shot as it was fairly well zipped open. The first one never reappeared after another hour waiting.
