Out last night.

Where I shoot fallow the chap said there are some fox's somewhere so I said I'll pop over.
I found deer in the usual spot which was good but no fox's.
I patrolled around the hilly place but nothing. Then I took a tumble crossing a fence, it was slowly turning into a night of the usual turmoil when in the distance, several hundred of yards away I heard a dog fox barking!
I moved a little closer and waited to see if anything appeared in the distance.
Eventually one did so I blasted away on my mouth caller that sounds like a stricken hare and the thing came in a full chat! I only just had enough time to reboot the PARD.
I used my svelte 457 in 17.
The dam fox moved on the shot as I was actually lit up from a great big whacking light on a chicken unit! It was nearly a disaster!

Question for anyone with an opinion. 🙄

Out for a walk around today, being the last one of the season, and one of the sheep pastures has a serious mole infestation. A few yards out from the strip of trees and the ground had been seriously ripped up as if by boar, except that there aren’t any boar anywhere near my region. Would this be badger or fox?

PS, drew a complete blank, bugger. ☹️m

Thats good shooting SD, fast & no hanging around. :Like ya style man! Out tonight, I saw a fox along way off, he was going faster & faster along a hedge line, kept looking at me, the second time in 2 nights he done this, he couldn't see me as I was in a cattle shed on a bale of straw so it must have been the IR, started going through the hedge & all I could see was his arse end, I thought damn, missed him then the sound of a solid wump came back. Hmm. Came home, got the truck & scanned the meadow on the other side. Nowt. Will try again in the morning, sometimes the bullet hitting mud can make you think it was hit. I still think I got him, its a bastard of a hedge though, Blackthorn. Must have been a good 280 yds. Hmm, what's hit is history, what's missed is mystery! How I miss my dog.

No Boar, so Badger for sure.
Mochyn Daear is the Welsh name for the Badger. It means hedge pig, an apt name.
They will plough turf in the same way as Boar. Turning over huge areas, overnight.

I realise this was not exactly out last night.
I shot these two on the 8th of Oct last year.
Apologies if it should be posted elsewhere.
I was not sure at the time if I should post it at all.

Do Foxes kill Cats? I've Never seen it. But??⁷
Do Foxes eat cats? They absolutely do.

Not sure what the cat loveing anti-shooting brigade would have wanted me to do.

Fox on the left is a large Vixen, Fox on the right is a very late, very small dog cub or a runt.
Shot the vixen first, the cub ran 30m or so and stopped, so I shot it.
Going by the size of the head, it was no kitten. It also had good teeth.
I don't know if they killed it or found it dead.
I do know they obviously ate it. It wasn't a farm cat, as the local farmers don't keep cats because they are all sheep farmers. Im told Cat s--t carries a disease that causes late abortions in Ewes. Hence no cats on these farms.

Foxes will chase anything that hunts on its territory, except badgers. If the cat stands its ground there is a good chance there will be a resolution.
There used to be an old keepers trick that involved burying a dead cat with its tail sticking out. Dont ask.

The mind boggles!
It's to close to bedtime for horror stories.

Had a double this am, not Fox though, took the usual route out the village bout 4:30, I have the usual pair of earth dogs in hand, & missus has the Greyhound and the Lurcher, as soon as we turned out of the gate the Teckels were nose down & quietly beginning to go into yodel mode, this then set her two into sled dog mode, f**k, what's that in middle of the lane?, biggest sow Badger I have seen for a good while, proper Dunlop job, what a struggle trying to pass it with the gang in full kill mode.
After finishing their morning walk, we go back into kill mode as a cat has taken up residence back of the house.
Jeez what a morning.

I've shot a vixen carrying a cat. It was nearly as big as she was, she tripped over it and dropped it 3 times in the distance from where I spotted her to where I shot her.
The cat was definitely a house cat, not that woolly feral look,no collar but had bite marks on the back of the neck. No matching fur in the vixens teeth so maybe just from carrying it, not from killing it. Have presumed that she found it dead on roadside and was carrying back to cubs, I shot her on a silage field after first cut so not recently.

Brings back old memories for me.. I had a bobbery pack of terriers and a couple of lurchers, every walk was exciting...

Sorry, I haven’t put many photos up for 25 , between work and these bloody fallow I’ve been pretty busy, anyway here’s a couple from last Thursday night, dog and vixen. The dog was called from the other side of the valley with , dog fox matting call , and he came charging in . The vixen, on inspection, looked very pregnant and I spotted here coming from the lambing shed , so a very good result 👍🏻IMG_1146.webp

It looks the same, the only difference is size of the holes and rips in the soil. Boar, much bigger.20/30 square centimetres, badger.

Can we post also for out this morning? I found out that before dawn I have as much or more success as after dusk, the only trouble is getting out of bed:-)

Why not?:):thumb:

I am sitting having a coffee; dog is fed and I am trying to work out whether to make the effort to go out, last year I was out every morning - I must be getting soft….
🦊🦊
I know that feeling!
And it can (If not careful) get worse, like whether to make the effort to get out of bed even!!! 🥰
Ken.
