How you broken your arm?Anyone had issues with predators not coming out when calling? I am recovering from a broken arm and wasn’t out for a few months, managed to shoot something but there’s no interest at all in any type of sound. What I managed to get was wandering around and did not pay attention at all to any sound. Could numbers be down or did the foxes/ jackals get smarter? Any similar experience in your areas?
Nicely doneAfter missing a easy one last Friday. A quick check tonight had me about 5 inches high. 3 shots later and zeroed.
Off to the poultry unit and numbers #35#36#37View attachment 431628
Rifle back to normal.
Still numbers are well down this year but now the nights are getting a bit longer should start knocking them over

They dont always respond to a call .Anyone had issues with predators not coming out when calling? Some will ignore the call and some will come in like absolute fools...I just think its either preference or intelligence (or someone has called them and missed in the past). I know some vixens will teach their cubs to avoid strange sounds. About 15 years ago I had 3 cubs racing towards me after a hand squeak...next thing the vixen barked at them and they turned and ran straight to her with no shot....Not sure they are getting smarter thoughAnyone had issues with predators not coming out when calling? Had that happen a few times. Some will ignore the call and some will come in like absolute fools...I just think its either preference or intelligence (or someone has called them and missed in the past). For me its one of the appeals of fox shooting...despite the perceived advantage we have (fancy kit, NV etc) you still need fieldcraft and knowledge...with a bit of luck. Whilst we have all had those nights where we have foxes on the deck within a couple of minutes of arriving Im sure we have all had the 20 or 30 hours out night after night trying to catch the tricky ones who (despite our best efforts) continue to kill 100s of chickens or carry on taking lambs.Had that happen a few times.
This is why we love it , every night is different. Difficult to believe- I was in a small village and went to walk the dog. Nighttime, no street lights, and had him on a leash (it’s a farmer’s dog, usually I just open the car door in the morning and let him roam until it’s time to go home). He probably saw a cat or a fox and ran, I wasn’t paying attention so when the leash reached the end, I got knocked down. 45 days of immobilisation, and now 45 days to recover mobility. Wonderful…How you broken your arm?
They eat bugs a lot this time of year.

Perm! thought that was what Kevin Keegan used to sportTim even us newbies cane see you have some great deer on your perm..
.
Good effort but 6/10 for presentation ...More Tim then GretaI popped out this afternoon on a different barley stubble. The wind was gusting up to 40 mph all afternoon blowing my hide about.
A few birds decoyed but very slow. A magpie landed about 100 yds away and I managed to squeak it in to 30 yds and nailed it
Come 5.30 I was on about 30 birds then they switched on decoying well and I was busy until about 7.45 ending the session on 111 birds
Just for Timmy the birds are not lined up
