Painting tikka stock.

Hello all,
Has anyone done a good job of painting/spraying a t3x black plastic stock?
What primers/paints did you use.
I wouldn't mind getting it a bit less of a dark tone.

Will be foam filling the cavity at the same time as it is noisy.
Taping the swing swivels stopped some noise, bit it still clunks on my jacket pocket buttons, annoying to me as much as anything

TIA to any suggestions.

I’ve not painted a Tikka plastic stock but have done others including AICS stock sides. I usually just degrease and then use Krylon. On the AICS sides I used a spray primer, it could have been Rust-Oleum. Once on you can protect the finish with a clear matt spray varnish but I generally just leave a painted surface now.

Thankyou.

I've used both Krylon and EC Weapon Paint with good results.

EC Spray paint is another little harder wearing I've found but not available in as many colour's.

Key up the surface, decrease, prime if you want then have fun. I rarely prime these days as touching it up is a doddle and the paint is quite durable as long as your not throwing it around.

I've painted scopes, silencers, stocks, barrels all came out fine. Prep is the deciding factor.

Sandpaper.
Aceton.
Primer.
Spray paint in different colours.
I used small paint brushes also, so I could splash or blow different patterns around on a Tikka plastic stock I used before...
Clear spray.

Or you could try hydrodipping...

Krylon is brilliant I’ve done a few. I’ve never primed or keyed the surface, just cleaned

Just ordered some Krylon paints after seeing this post, it sparked something I hadn't thought of doing. Will try out on my hatsan escort first before I take to the tikka 🤣 Will be going for the sponge method with 3 different paints, I'll post the results in a few days.

Like others I’m a big fan of krylon - it has proven to be very hard wearing on issue firearms for me (seemed harder wearing with a nicer finish than the plastikote I tried).

I’ve never bothered with surface prep though, as it was more about camouflage than carefully crafting a beauty queen! A scrim scarf, or an Army-issue laundry bag, make great final stencils.

I used this….Rust-Oleum camouflage paint https://amzn.eu/d/bkA4O0p

It is super flat Sheen which is great, it does scratch off with contact on hard objects but on balance I’d rather have the low-Sheen and after a while touch up with a few sprays.

So far tho used stock for 2 yrs and not scratched enough to bother me.

I used expanding foam in stock which worked well and some ice hockey stick tape (basically fabric tape for those who don’t have such things lying round!) on the swivel studs and it feels just how I want it! Hope that’s helpful

Took to my tired old t3 stock last night. Just need to spray with some clear matt today to seal the paint. Pretty pleased with the result.
