Bought a Pard off ebay a few months ago, quite cheap really, had 2 foxes with it, coming to bait close to house, , but it was no good at all tonight, used in a very dark area, ,sat in my car on turkey heads and guts about 100 yards out, finally a fox came, after about 1 and half hours, just couldn't see it at all through the rifle with the pard on, could spot fox easy with hand held pulsar thermal, think I would have got it if id had my gun light on with the orange filter, later I thought it was not working as it should because it was being used inside a vehicle and not getting any star light, generally very pleased with it, great when used on a night with a bit of moonlight. Got permission on a new bit for flighting Carrion Crows, ,went again tonight, shot 8 carrions and picked 8 up, had 26 shots, saw about 100, all shot flying over going to roost , last time there had 1 for 6, time before, 3 for 13 shots, saw about 60 each time.

You need a extra Ir Illuminator. I’ve got both the 700 and 800. I’m using a laserluchs 5000 at the moment. It helps a lot. I find the onboard ir drains too quick for me.

Done the IR route and personally would advise to go straight for a separate laser as the step up is significant and will transform any Pard. Day and night.

Stand alone rechargeable batteries mean it will never leave you short if you have a spare.

I use a black sun dark engine laser, but pals have other makes and there all ace.

I too was initially struggling to see much with the onboard ir but then realised you can focus/zoom it, although an external one is by far much better I can easily shoot to 150 with the onboard ir through a hawke scope

out of interest under which general licence are you justifying shooting the crows?

Hasn't the old general licence been replaced by a new one with just a few alterations, still covers Shooting carrions, the less of them there are the more chance the waders will have in rearing. England.

GL36 covers it if I am correct.
Might be wrong, but that's my interpretation.

Make sure the lense on the pard ir is fully out, or you struggle at longer ranges. I honestly can't see me every needing an additional ir for mine.

General licence WML GL-35. Covers carrion crow so long as you can prove when questioned that shooting these birds is a last resort and all other non lethal methods tried prior to this has failed

Hi ill try again with it, its really a cheap alternative to full thermal, must say Im incredibly impressed with my hand held Pulsar thermal, bought used off ebay, just lucky with it as theres not many used ones on there of my model. Been back to bait site today its only 75 metres from where I was ,cant weigh up why I couldn't see the fox, try again, maybe take gun light as well,

Yes thought so, as always ive tried altenative methods, shouting at them, waving my arms about , flag waving, scarecrows, walking about, yes weve done everything, so this is really a last resort. kill kill.as my old mate oldcullstag would always say.

Its on the eye end of a top quality night force scope, works great with a bit more moon light ,but just last night it was crap. Lens on scope must be on minimum mag, that's 8 for mine, ive fiddled on with it and adjusted it ,pressed a few buttons but still didn't see any better. keep at it.

The Night Force scope has an ir, just couldn't see the fox at all last night. Are there any of these on ebay ??

I have probably read your original post incorrectly BUT are you using a pard for crow flighting as well as foxing?

I've found when there's alot of moisture in the air the pard suffers

The built in IR is good enough to shoot to 300m. You just need to adjust the zoom to the distance you are shooting out too.
Initial set up is the most important part and then adjust parallax to the range you're shooting.
Thermal suffers more from moisture in the air than the Pard.

Best bang for your buck in my option with the NV007. Cheap scope. Can't go wrong.

So I am lead to believe it’s the top end scopes that are no good for these units, it’s something to do with the lense coating, I’ve been out tonight with one on a 24 mag hawke scope , using an armasight ir and can clearly see rabbits at 600m (SIX HUNDRED)
So I recon it’s a case of downgrading your scope and upgrading the ir

JUST come in feet like ice, went back to where I was last night,to the turkey bait, got there a bit late, in at 745pm, sat in and stood leaning on car, mostly sat in, after an hour saw 1 fox at about 500 metres with hand held thermal, sat and sat saw nothing more, pulled out at 10:45, 3 hour stake out, rather boring, mind gets to wandering, heard a barn owl, heard tawny owls saw a hare, took the gun lamp tonight and left the pard at home, ive missed using that light, you cant beat actually seeing in colour the fox, there cant be so many foxes about up there, can see for nearly half a mile, lots of nothing, nothing moving at all, if they were there id see them clear as day with the thermal, . Home now for a cup of hot tea and a warm up.
