Pard zero issues

Hi folks.
Got a pard NV008lrf fitted to my .17hmr and had many a successful night on the bunnies taking them from 35-175 yds. Other night missed a couple of real sitters both around the 50-75 yd mark that should have been bread an butter shots. Thought zero was out and maybe had taken a knock so retired for the evening. Gave rifle a good clean out and re zeroed at 50yds with the 20gr CCI ammo I’ve been using for a while. Putting 3 shots touching in a 15mm target centre at 50yds off the sticks no problem, so happy with zero, checked all the settings for the ballistics calculator too.
Went back that weekend to rabbit perm, and again I’m missing sitting rabbits at 50-89 yds, now we all miss the odd one, but this is bonkers! I’m missing by enough to not make the rabbit move!
Know it’s not me as swapped to my 22lr fitted with a ds35 lrf and took loads. So, my question is, is my oars playing up when I switch to night mode? It’s the same settings for x & y when I check, but im
Missing everything!
Any ideas?

Hi Craig.
When you say that you re zeroed at 50 yds, was the original zero out indicating it had moved ?.
Over the year i have done a lot of night time rabbit shooting with n/v and the hmr -------with hmr amo of all makes, you get good and bad batches, iv'e mainly used Hornady 17g, over the last 2 years the best iv'e done is 29 head shot rabbits out of 30 shots but in general i expect to get around a 20% miss rate due to the amo ------its just the way it is.

Check your 008 in n/v mode at 50 yds with say 5 shots, if 4 out of the 5 are on i would say its not your scope -------its the amo.

Cheers Dave, yeah plan was to go to my woods tomorrow and put it in night mode and see where the shots are going at 50yds. I’ve got a whole range of ammo that I can try, I did have 500 of a special edition CCI 20gr that they designed for savage arms with a ballistic tip that my Tikka loved, but can’t get them anymore. Jusy can’t seem to get decent consistency. Get days like you where you get 20 for 20 and days where you get a clean miss three times in a row at barely 50yds. My zero had moved last time it happened, will see how it groups tomorrow if the weather isn’t too horrendous 🤞🏻

Just a little talk about cleaning the hmr, and how you clean it.
Some don't clean until accuracy drops off, some give a good clean, then there is the in between.
If your using your rifle at night outside, its in a high water content environment, it get hot then cold and water will rest on the inside of the barrel, if nothing is done about this it will rust and eventually get pitting.
I clean with bronze brush and white spirit, two dry patches then finish with a lightly oiled patch when i get back home. ------i think as a minimum you want to dry patch it and finish with the lightly oiled patch.
With the hmr cleaning (when shot on a regular basis) a no no is the clean it with "copper cleaner", this is most likely to cause you to need up to 5 shots for it to settle down again.

With the weekends forecast, cleaning is about as far as I might get! 🙄

sounds like you might not have saved the zero ? or like already mentioned check the x, y figures are saved correctly.
If I were you Id be checking zero on different days to make sure its saving long term?

IMG_3601.webpCame out of my moderater
Earlier…🙄

IMG_3601.webpIMG_3601.webpWell, when I took the cap off the SAK moderator and this fell out immediately, I think I may have found some, if not all of the problem…
Inside the mod was like a Victorian chimney, took a long time to scrub and clean out, so thinking it may have been clipping the odd round? It’s certainly not going to be any worse for a major clean is it….
Soon as it’s safe to do so I’ll get down my range and re zero and see what happens
