Depends on what its for. Plenty of guns are shipped around the country every day by RFDs in cardboard, plenty of bubble wrap and / or cheap hard plastic cases with duck tape. Such cases are also used for flying.
Pelicases are really tough, last a long time and keep everything safe. But heavy and expensive. You can put a long peli case between two stools and it will support quite a bit of weight, much more so than a cheap case. Where Peli’s and their ilk win is the quality of the latches. On cheaper cases, the actual case may be strong enough but latches let go. That’s where duct tape comes into play.
Solid cases though are a pain in the arse to carry, put in a car etc. especially long rifle cases.
I have a cheap American case, given to me by a friend. He bought to bring a rifle back from the states. I have used it a couple of times to fly with a rifle. No issues at all. But I did duct all the catches and hinges.
