Peli type case for a large/long rifle

Anybody got any good experience to Peli type cases to suit a large/long rifle, that perhaps doesn't cost Peli money ?

Depends on what its for. Plenty of guns are shipped around the country every day by RFDs in cardboard, plenty of bubble wrap and / or cheap hard plastic cases with duck tape. Such cases are also used for flying.

Pelicases are really tough, last a long time and keep everything safe. But heavy and expensive. You can put a long peli case between two stools and it will support quite a bit of weight, much more so than a cheap case. Where Peli’s and their ilk win is the quality of the latches. On cheaper cases, the actual case may be strong enough but latches let go. That’s where duct tape comes into play.

Solid cases though are a pain in the arse to carry, put in a car etc. especially long rifle cases.

I have a cheap American case, given to me by a friend. He bought to bring a rifle back from the states. I have used it a couple of times to fly with a rifle. No issues at all. But I did duct all the catches and hinges.

I have the Nuprol hard case on the previous post and it does the job grand. Can be ordered with wave or pick and pluck foam but I opted for foam from shadow foam that can be cut to suit your rifle, all in all I can’t fault it 👍🏻

check out Meijia - pick & pluck , sometimes available on that auction site, pity you are so far away i could have sold you a brand new one, retractable handles & wheeled, but i think delivery would be expensive.
Regards
Ken

these are excellent. I've owned one for 13 years.

Its clearly cheaply made but does the job. Its lockable and I add extra security by taping it with black ducktape and cutting the ends neatly with scissors (hard to remove in a hurry!). Also I put tool stickers on it - Makita, dewalt etc.

Thanks. I work with Peli cases all the time. I need a similar case without the inflated price tag.

I’ve two pelicase 1750 and a couple of large transit cases cube sized, one being the type with draw out handle and wheels for larger items

All have served multiple trips aboard and all are although scratched - they remain secure and protect the contents as they were designed to

The rifle cases have endured multiple trips at the hands of baggage handlers and to and from proof house on countless occasions

I can’t think of another product I’d trust to protect the gear they carry

The cost is irrelevant to the protection they offer

The SKB cases are excellent and definitely the equal of the Peli 1750 I have recently acquired. I bought mine off eBay at a reasonable price and have cut my own foam from Shadowfoam. I think it looks good and definitely gives excellent protection. I even have depth for a double layer to include quad sticks in the rifle case.
Here is one for sale
