Perfect Roe Caliber

You definitely need a calibre with Creedmore or Ackley in its title otherwise you won't be one of the boys. Tough little rascals those roe, all 60lb's of them. you need every bit of energy to take those 50-100 yard shots and its no good if the bullet drops an extra 2mm over 100 yards when compared to a Creedmore. You could of course try wearing ear protection whilst stalking to protect your damaged hearing.
Looking at the decibel figures for full bore moderators i see that they still produce ear damaging noise levels.

I can only comment from my own experiences. I fear with a lot of these comments they are not borne out of actual real-life experiences of shooting deer - but out of ballistics charts and paper shooting. With regards to shooting Roe, shoot a rifle that fits you and gives you confidents, I personally shoot Roe with a 243 and occasionally with a 270, I have also shot them with 25-06/308/30-06 and even a 9.3x64!! They have all done the job; as has been said many times before on umpteen threads, bullet weight and configuration and shot placement will have a much greater baring on how deadly the shot is. All legal deer calibres in the UK are very capable of accounting for Roe humanly and efficiently. Good luck.

After suffering a perforated ear drum , my under used 270 has become uncomfortable to use . Don't know why it should be different to any other moderated rifle ,
Having spent too much time mulling over the options and since I primarily shoot Roe , I have decided on a 6.5x47 Lapua. Ample knock down , accurate , mild recoil and easy to moderate. Seems perfect!
Thoughts would appreciated ...

243 is an excellent roe calibre.ive never lost one yet.also ammo is in abundance if you don't reload and probably cheaper than 6.5.
Good luck with you're choice

Shot them with all sorts of things.

Strangely enough the most humane kills have been 223 with 55gr Vmax. Bigger cals just tend to blow holes in them and most of the energy goes "into the heather"

Hmmmmmmm, some wise words already spoken, and some cracking suggestions put forward.
Now that the 6BR is a viable magazine fed option, it’s hard to discount, but for me the one that hasn’t recieved a mention is the 6XC.
A cracking all rounder if ever there was one! :thumb:

My 243 with 75gr Accutip covered my fox & Roe. Never lost a Roe, longest run about 10yds, heart & lungs soup. Occasionaly would "balloon" the opposite shoulder when shot just above facing "elbow".
