Petition against EU Proposal to restrict specific firearms

I'm utterly stunned about the political hypocrisy that exists to come up with these idea. Terrorists of any name are free and well enough connected to illegally procure assault weapons and explosives within the French borders killing hundreds for example, .... and somebody thinks then a pressing priority should be to restrict and legally held firearms that the sporting communities have a good and just reason to possess. Utter idiot left wing liberal townies ...

Have you actually read the Directive?

Of course if we had a single, well-funded, hunting organisation representing us across Europe we'd be in a far stronger position, but achieving that would require people to dig into their pockets on the basis of something other than just buying cheap insurance, so don't hold your breath.

Pretty well given up on this one Willie, seems not to be in our culture?

Sadly for us the right sort of people no longer own guns. Can you imagine any circumstance if say three or four hundred MPs owned pistols where there would have been a hangun ban after Dunblane?

We lost the numbers game in Parliament in 1920. We have been on borrowed time ever since.

There will be no one here born in the eighties or nineties who will not have lost their right to own guns by the end of their lifetime.

I am fifty-eight. I'll pretty much see it out along with the rest of us "old gits". Those of you in your twenties and thirties won't. So enjoy it now.

the point being, such a directive is in the context above, stupid, unnecessary and not in touch with reality.

The point being - how do you know it's stupid, unnecessary and not in touch with reality if you haven't read it?

Do you know anything about the person who started the petition? Nope, me neither, so why go and sign up to something you haven't even read?

I'm not saying you have to agree with what they're suggesting, simply to read it and then make up your own mind. Even the Countryside Alliance say that "Many of the recommendations are sensible and show where improvements can be made". Doesn't that even slightly tweak your curiosity?

How do you know what I've read or not and in any case, change isn't necessary on these fronts
