Picatinny scope mounts

Over the past year I have set up a good few rifles with picatinny rails for myself and a few mates.
I always centre the scope for Windage first before I put it on.
The mounts we used were Warne, Burris, and tps, on every rifle I had to mess about with the rings swapping them around left to right or back to front to get them lined up as close to centre as possible before zeroing.
what I'd like to know is if there are any mounts available that are made correctly so that they line up no matter what way you put them on.

You make a very good point. However you need to keep in mind you are joining together 4 things that all have manufacturing tolerances -

  1. Barrel
  2. Action
  3. Picatinny rail
  4. Telescope

I separate out barrel and action as I have a rifle that points to the left. I presume the threads on the action are not concentric with the action. The rifle displays this characteristic even after re-barrelling.

To date for setting up a scope and leaving it alone, I've found Burris Signature rings very hard to beat. However I have a rifle that I'd like to stalk with and then target shoot with. I've not found a set of mounts yet that allows me to run two scopes on one rifle and have the scopes optically centred.

A quick detach set of rings with Burris type offset inserts are what I would like to use, however no-one seems interested in making this kind of ring.

I always used optilock mounts on sako and tikka rifles and never had a problem. It's only when I switched to rails I noticed it.
I had tikka optilock mounts on my sako trg and everything was fine, then i bought an expensive 20 moa picatinny rail and rings and when I zerod the scope the Windage turret had about 130 clicks one way and only about 60 the other way.
I was sure the fault was in the rail and just left it.
Then when I bought my tikka ctr I had the same problem so I messed about with the rings switching them around and I got it sorted. Then I went back to the trg and done the same and got it sorted as well.
So it looks to me like the rails are fine and its the mounts that are the problem.
I do have some Burris signature rings as well which are good.

Recently got a 300wm DCR with fitted with a 20moa rail. Scope just came back from repair and was centred. With a new Spuhr 10moa one piece mount the windage was out by only 4 clicks. Yesterday I took that scope in the Spuhr mount off the DCR and put it on my 308 remmy also 20moa , windage was out by 10 clicks. Elevation by maybe 10 clicks compared to DCR zero. The rail on the 308 I had fitted myself. Spuhr mounts are 100%. Centre reticle in the scope and epoxy bed the rail so that windage is bore sighted. Cheap mounts can we way out, even optilocs. Fitting a rail is not always straightforward. Sometimes better to check windage.
