Pick up insurance

I did use Adrian Flux or Lancaster for years. Then massive increase in premiums. Now with Churchill who were 50% cheaper.

NFU  One of the most expensive there is.

I have been with A PLan for years, still paying less than £400 a year on my Isuzu 2017 plate. NFU wanted stupid money, and that was with 9 years max no claims.

Interesting, I've just renewed with them for £325.

2007 Hilux with £1,100 volountary excess.

Max no claims, and protected, legal expense, curtesy vehicle (small van) windscreen, £242 thats with Ageas. i was insured with AA last year but that increased by nearly double so they lost out.

No disrespect intended here. That excess is ridiculous amount. A1 excess is £250 for me and its insured to carry firearms and passengers for business.
When I called the NFU they wanted nearly £800.00 for a 2017 motor with a more modern engine and worth around £18k at present.

But if you got a good deal then good for you. Frankly all insurance companies are out to screw us as much as possible in my opinion.

Its not unusual , Your not as a pickup owner able to drive a car on the Pick-up insurance , only another commercial vehicle.
NFU are my regular choice on price and service!

If you saw the vehicle, you'd realise why :thumb:

I am. This is a direct copy from my Hilux insurance certificate. Nothing here about it needing to be another commercial vehicle

The Policyholder may also drive a vehicle not belonging to the policyholder and not hired to the policyholder under a hire purchase agreement or leased to the policyholder under a leasing agreement, provided that;
  • ● The policyholder has the owner’s permission to do so; and
  • ● The policyholder still has the vehicle identified above by its registration mark and it has
not been damaged beyond economical repair nor been stolen and not recovered; and
  • ● The vehicle is registered within the territorial limits; and
  • ● The policyholder is not using the vehicle outside of the territorial limits; and
  • ● The policyholder is not insured under any other insurance to drive the vehicle, and
  • ● There is a current and valid policy of insurance held for that vehicle in accordance with the Road Traffic Acts.

My pickup is insured by Churchill on a car policy and I have the driving other cars endorsement.
I changed from an SUV and did queries where I should be on a van policy but they said I was fine and provided a confirmation email.
Cover is private use only

Although currently not insured to drive any other vehicle (unless a named driver), I was insured by a different company 1 year that did allow driving of other vehicles. So it is possible

No, you must ask more specifically of your "broker" . Unless your a named driver , if your insured on a commercial you have no transfer of full comp cover while driving a car . Commercial vehicle will generally cover up to 7.5 tonne but not cars . This is also vice versa, its always been such

Try Go Compare on the web site I saved £344 this year over my brokers quote which has been low. Insurance has jumped this year as some of the main insurance companies have dropped out of the vehicle insurance market this year.

I agree with using agregator sites such as GoCompare, confused or money supermarket etc. There are so many variables applied to motor insurance that what is right for one is not necessarily best for another. Also sometimes better going with a bigger name per post #34 above as the moment of truth with insurance is when you have to make claim. Some of the cheapest policies are offered by small brokers who wouldn't understand their regulatory obligations if they jumped up and bit them on ar##

Cheap insurance is only good value if you don't need to make a claim. My total bill this year is over £7k with the NFU but I know from experience that when I need them they stump up with no messing about. The only other insurer I've had good experiences with was Hiscox.
