Pick-up tail gate problem

HELP!

I have an L200, today whilst out shooting today I closed the tailgate and trapped a very small buckle from a game bag in the gap between bottom of the tailgate and the truck bed.

Now the tail gate will not open. It’s solid, the handle lifts but there is no disengagment, so something is happening with the mechanism. I had a bit of a difficulty getting two dogs out the back, one in a dog box, but I did succeed with that thankfully.

So any ideas, brute force (to a degree) has been tried but I need some fresh ideas.

it at a guess has rolled 1 hinge so is fighting the 2 out side latches. like a doctors phone call with out seeing in the patient.
get it open and put a tape also look to see if it is on the p iss

done something similar on my l200.
with the handle held in the opening position push the tailgate in to relieve the pressure on the striker catch.you might need help to lift the catch and push the tailgate on both sides.
Phil.

Found the problem

By getting into the truck I was able to use a flat headed screwdriver to depress the catches on both sides and drop the tail gate

They were not moving at all with the door handle

Removed the panelling and saw that the bracket had sheared away from the handle internally.
