Portable reloading press stand ideas

Sorry, should have said or explained better…. I can’t get G clamps onto the desk due to the design of it
Show us a picture of the desk if you can :-| , you must be able to slide a top drawer out or open a door while you reload. That way you can use the tried and tested piece of timber and G clamp method.
Also, remember that today's prized possession is next year's piece of flotsam.... so I'd get the drill out on the oak desk... you can always plug those holes and refinish the top in later years.. PS Don't do the drilling trick if it's a desk by Thomas Chippendale or Thomas Sheraton though ;)

Hi
Yes I had a similar challenge a few years ago. I found a picture of a stand on the net and a chap at work who was good at woodwork knocked this up for the Rockchucker. Brilliant bit of kit.

That looks like the idea solution to me 👍🤩
If the table top surface is a worry (it would be in our house), then a self adhesive felt or soft plastic sheet stuck to the underside would provide adequate protection

I put a lot of force into my presses. So G clamping to the leading edge would probable rip them off.

How about a piece of 6x1 plank, running front to back of the desk. With some way of hooking it over the back edge, to hold that down and take the press turning forces. And a lip on the leading edge, to stop it sliding back. No need for any clamping at all.

I’m working on exactly this 👌pics to follow

All sorted now , strong and sturdy and easily removed when not in use . I’ve a layer of felt glued on bottom of worktop cutting too to keep mrs happy 😃

Thanks all

Ken, a good idea for new reloaders, but you need different style of dies that are good quality, with a price to match. Making it a better choice for new reloaders, less attractive for reloaders with a full existing setup 👍

A fabricator pal of mine knocked this up for me from a drawing that I gave him, 10mm steel plate x 2 a few holes and stitch welded around the join, he reckons it took him 20 minutes to make, I clamp it to the corner of my desk right above one of the legs, it could be clamped to a workmate, workbench or even a chair, anything really.

I have attached the drawing incase it is of use to anyone else

Or drill it to mate to a trailer (caravan) hitch insert, so you reload at the range....
